In the March 2022 Republican Primary Election we will get to vote on our Justice of the Peace in Precinct 2. I plan to vote for Judge Marcus Payne. He has done an excellent job as our JP. I don’t know of anyone else in Precinct 2 with experience operating a Justice of the Peace office. When you vote, “Make Your Mark For Marcus.” Keep his experience working for us in Precinct 2.

I was very happy to see that Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Marcus Payne has filed for a place in the March 2021 Republican Primary. As many of you know I had to resign as Precinct 2 JP due to medical problems. Judge Payne was selected as my replacement by the County Commissioners Court. He has the experience, knowledge, and training to perform the duties of a JP. If anyone else files to run against him they will have little, if any, qualifications to do the job.

I encourage everyone to vote in the Republican primary election and I will be voting for Judge Marcus Payne to continue as our Precinct 2 JP. I hope you will vote for him too.

I am a Republican. I have already voted in the 2020 election. I voted for Republicans but would have voted for Democrats if I felt that my life would be better because of their platform and/or views. All I heard was what the Republicans weren’t doing. With the exception of local candidates, I don’t think that I ever heard anything positive that a Democrat would do to make my life, or the lives of people in my community better. You don’t have to agree with me. I will respect the outcome of this election no matter who wins. Please vote. Your voice matters.

I saw a bumper sticker on a car today. I thought I’d share the wisdom it expressed. It might save some lives. It said “Aways wear your seatbelt when you drive. It makes it harder for Aliens to suck you out of your car.” It might help save your life too.

As a Justice of the Peace I have seen a number of traffic deaths that could have been prevented if the person was wearing a seatbelt. Unfortunately some were children. Please buckle up and make sure that everyone in your vehicle is buckled before you start to drive.

Contrary to what you often read on Facebook, if you drive impaired, the judge will be working tomorrow. I know because I am the judge who will be working tomorrow. You will get to see me but you probably won't enjoy the encounter. I have to consider whether or not you might reoffend and must consider how to protect the public from you making poor decisions.

If you are convicted of a DWI, it will remain on your record and will be considered when the next magistrate sets your bail on future charges of DWI.

Please don't drive impaired. You have a number of options that are less costly than the expenses associated with a DWI. You can call a cab, ride service, a friend or family member, a tow truck, or even local law enforcement. They will get you home and you can get your vehicle tomorrow. Please Be Safe Tonight and every night.

There are many people who are working to keep us safe and to respond to emergency situations while most of us are enjoying Christmas with our families. These people would prefer to celebrate the holiday with their families too but their jobs require that they be on duty to take care of the rest of us.

Law Enforcement Officers, Doctors, Jailers, Firemen, Nurses, Correctional Officers, EMS Professionals, Justices of the Peace, and Wrecker Drivers all perform necessary jobs. You never know how important they are until you need one. I have a deep respect for these people and the jobs they do because I have witnessed them work on holidays.

I hope that you never need one of these professionals during your holiday celebration. It is comforting to know that someone gave up their holiday to make sure mine is safe and enjoyable for myself and my family.

Patti and I had lunch with the governor today. Jeff Bradley had a get together for him at the Diamond G Venue in New Waverly. It was nice of him to pay attention to Walker County. Thank you Jeff, for making it possible.
