The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) manages inmates in state prisons, state jails, and private correctional facilities that contract with the TDCJ. The agency also provides funding and certain oversight of community supervision and is responsible for the supervision of inmates released from prison on parole or mandatory supervision. Built on a Sunset Advisory Committee recommendation, this first outward facing inventory helps families and community partners stay informed. 💭 A similar version is available on inmate tablets, which is separate from the website.

Congratulations to Officer Darrin Smith for reaching 35 years with the agency! 🎉 He initially started in 1986 at the TDCJ - Jester III/Vance Complex. Over the years, he advanced through a wide range of roles across multiple locations, bringing valuable experience to every assignment. 👏📋

He credits several leaders who encouraged his growth along the way. Currently, Smith serves at TDCJ - Joe Kegans ISF as the Rehabilitation and Reentry Division Programs Officer and Chemicals Officer! 🌟

The TDCJ - John M. Wynne Unit welcomed leaders from the Texas State University System for a tour highlighting education, programming and workforce development! Visitors gained insight into the various ways individuals are prepared for successful reentry. 🤝🔁

The tour included classroom engagement with the Windham School District, an overview of faith‑based and volunteer‑driven efforts through Chaplaincy and Volunteer Services and a visit to Texas Correctional Industries’ sign shop.

TDCJ appreciated the opportunity to host its partners and showcase the mission in action! 🌟
