“Command and control isn’t just a doctrine, a platform, or a system. It is who we are, and what we do,” said Col. James Fields II, 505th Command & Control Wing commander. “Individually, you are the experts behind the scenes. Collectively with our brother and sister wings, you are C2. I welcome the challenge because I know we are built for this. We are one unified, purpose-built wing with a name that says it all: We are C2.”

Securing decision advantage starts with developing the people, concepts and capabilities that give the joint force its competitive edge.

The 505th Test and Training Group welcomed Col. William “Echo” Gery as its new commander during a change of command ceremony at Hurlburt Field, July 2.

As he accepted command, Gery emphasized the importance of the group’s mission.

“The work you do here is the absolute keystone of our combat capability,” Gery said. “The warfighters we train, the radars we monitor and optimize, and the concepts we develop are what give our joint forces the decisive edge.”

The ceremony also recognized the leadership of Col. James “Denzel” Fields II, whose tenure advanced command and control training, operational testing and battle management capabilities across the joint force.

Hurlburt Field Command and Control Wing Changes Command

Congratulations to Col. James Fields II on assuming command of the 505th Command & Control Wing.

As the Air Force’s only wing dedicated to operational-level C2, the 505th CCW develops, experiments, trains, and exercises the tactics, techniques, and procedures that prepare joint and coalition forces to succeed in today’s complex operational environment.

At the same time, we extend our sincere thanks and farewell to Col. Ryan Hayde for his leadership and dedicated service as outgoing commander. His contributions have helped strengthen the wing’s mission and impact across the joint force.

Please join us in congratulating Col. Fields and wishing Col. Hayde all the best in his next assignment.

💻✈️🛰️When United States Air Force and United States Space Force operators sit directly beside the industry developers building their software, decision-making speed skyrockets. 🚀

The Shadow Operations Center-Nellis recently hosted the Multi-Decision Advantage Sprint for Human-Machine Teaming (MASH) in Las Vegas. For the first time, U.S. Space Force Guardians joined Air Force battle managers to work directly alongside industry software development teams, stress-testing new AI-enabled tools against simulated threats.

This deep integration was made possible by the Air Force Research Laboratory - AFRL., which built a digital "orchestrator." This breakthrough software backbone seamlessly connected the disparate, industry-built AI tools into a single interface for the operators to use.

This co-creation environment allowed the joint warfighters to provide immediate feedback to the industry developers sitting right behind them. The operational impact was massive: operators reported that complex, simulated taskings that previously took nearly an hour to complete manually were finished in just five minutes using the integrated software.

By proving that a rapid, iterative approach to software acquisitions actually works, the MASH experiment delivered an actionable blueprint that can effectively integrate disparate tools to solve complex problems across the air, space, cyber, maritime, and ground domains.

Raynor takes command of 505th CS, driving cyber readiness

Cybersecurity isn't the brakes that slow the mission down, it is the brakes that allow the mission to go fast, safely. Securing and defending our enclave is not a part-time job, it is the foundation of mission assurance.

Please join us in welcoming Lt. Col. Justin Raynor to command, and thanking the outgoing commander, Lt. Col. Crystal Lusardi, for her outstanding leadership over the past two years, in the comments below!

From concepts to capabilities: Abdullateef takes helm of Kirtland-based 705th CTS/DMOC

During his first address as commander, Abdullateef drew on his recent operational experience to underscore the importance of the squadron's work.

"Having recently returned from a short-notice deployment, I've personally witnessed our warfighters solve complex challenges and demonstrate exactly why realistic training remains one of our nation's greatest competitive advantages," Lt. Col. Sajjad Abdullateef, 705th Combat Training Sqaudro commander, told the formation.

Please join us in welcoming Lt. Col. Sajjad Abdullateef to command, and thanking the outgoing commander, Lt. Col. David Jones, for his outstanding leadership over the past two years, in the comments below!
