After a prolonged dry period for much of the Northland, widespread rain chances return at the end of this week. First, a cold front moves through west to to east late Wednesday into Thursday. Then, additional showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along a stationary front in the Upper Midwest Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning. Isolated severe storms are possible late Wednesday and again Thursday afternoon and evening.

05/18/2026

Another round of strong to severe storms are possible this evening and tonight, primarily in northwest Wisconsin. The main hazards would be large hail and wind gusts to 60 mph. Secondary threats are isolated tornadoes and heavy rain that could lead to localized flooding.

Another round of showers and storms are possible this evening, accompanied by chances for heavy rainfall where these showers and storms occur. Most of the rainfall is expected to be in northwest Wisconsin, with some isolated areas possibly getting up to an inch.
