Anyone looking to read about an extremely generous act of kindness that will allow thousands of students to benefit over the next several decades and beyond should read the following.

Remember when Jean Tarro Ninefeldt donated $160,000 to create an optimum learning center on the middle/high school side and one in remembrance of her brother and longtime teacher, Ms. Bino?

Well, once again, her extreme generosity shines through. She came into the school today because she heard we were looking at finding funding to create a similar experience on the elementary side. She asked how much we needed and was told the total cost was expected to be $75,000.

She immediately replied that she wanted to do more to help kids have a positive learning environment and one that encourages the love of reading. She wanted to do something while alive and could see the good her donations were doing for the school, children, and the community. Without hesitation, she pledged the entire amount of $75,000. The planning will now take place, and the project will begin in June 2025 with a completion date of September 1, 2025.

She doesn't want any publicity, but she was encouraged to share her story in hopes of enticing others to act now if they have the means to help children.

Our entire community is very grateful to Jean Tarro Ninefeldt as she models generosity, values the need for education and constant reading, and wants to help children enjoy a successful school experience.

Gary Pelkola, the Hurley Education Foundation President, smiles devilishly like he’s reliving his younger years and that’s in part because he finds so much joy and fulfillment in working to make the Hurley School and community a better place for children. And if you want to make Gary smile more, make a donation to the HEF as that works every time.

Donations are always needed, welcomed, and greatly appreciated…….

A donor walked into the office this week and presented a $7,000 check to be given to the Hurley Education Foundation and requested it to be used in the Industrial Arts program. They wanted the donation to be anonymous and stated they simply wanted to do something good for the kids! Amazing!!!!

These are the pleasant surprises that help make all the difference in allowing us to provide exceptional experiences using cutting-edge technology in the woods and metals programs!

There are many other ideas to further enhance areas throughout the school, so if you’ve ever thought about donating to help support the kids, now is the perfect time! Actually, any time is a great time, as all donations are truly appreciated!

Thanks to all the donors who help make a positive difference for our students! Please get in touch with me to discuss starting a scholarship, donating to a specific project, or simply touring the school. Our community is blessed to have such fantastic support!

Sincerely,

Kevin Genisot

A big THANK YOU to our inductee Zona Wick for such a generous donation!

Congratulations on your induction into the Hurley Education Foundation Distinguished Alumni and Friends!

July 31, 2023 - A Gift Greatly Appreciated~

How does the Hurley School provide students with amazing experiences? It's through generous donations like the one the Hurley Education Foundation received this weekend during the induction ceremony. Inductee Zona Wick presented a surprise check to HEF president Gary Pelkola for $10,000 to be used in the industrial arts center in memory of her father and long-time educator, Skip Wick. She and Vic Calore wanted to do something good for the school and the students and hoped others would follow. Donations like these help us offer students the experiences and opportunities that are critical for providing a well-rounded education! We can't tell you enough how much it's appreciated, as our students and staff are incredibly grateful!

Mr. Rye, the green thumb guy, and Mr. Chilson, both updated the Hurley Education Foundation members on how the hydroponic growing of kale is going, which will soon be on the salad bar for students to select for lunch. Both instructors have big plans for the future and with the financial support of the HEF, anything is possible.
