Mayor Jack Bradley of the City of Lorain is a big supporter of Recreational Boating Safety. His city is one of the larger small-boat harbors in our area, and also one of the smaller LARGE-BOAT harbors, too, with an active shipping route for aggregates and salt.

The City of Lorain has a Marine Patrol run by Lorain Police officers and the Fire Department has recently acquired a boat which will increase their ability to respond to incidents on or around the water. The Auxiliary and the Coast Guard work with these city assets regularly, patrolling large public events, and responding to emergencies.

Thank you Mayor Bradley, and thank you to the citizens of the City of Lorain - the HOME of the USCG Auxiliary Lorain Flotilla!

Happy Chief’s Day! Chief’s are Enlisted personnel in the US Coast Guard who have risen to top, to become petty officers (warrant officers), who lead in their rating (area of specialization) and command (segment of USCG personnel, often by geographical area). It is often said that the Coast Guard runs on Chiefs.

Our USCG Auxiliary boat works with ODNR and other USCG, Metroparks, and local police boats, to keep large waterborne events safer for everyone. Congrats to ODNR on this big, beautiful craft, which expands their ability to respond to incidents at or near our waters.

This week, we launched our largest patrol boat, State Boat 213. The boat is a 36’ Boston Whaler and powered by three 300 hp engines. It is best suited for heavy seas and long security details for events such as the Cleveland Air Show. Our crew did a lot of work this winter prepping all of our patrol boats including a full wet sand of the hull and new decals.

Volunteer for the 2026 National Recreational Boating Safety Survey!

The National Recreational Boating Safety Survey (NRBSS) is a nationwide survey sponsored by the US Coast Guard to understand how many people go boating, what types of boats they use, and how often they are on the water. As part of the survey, we are asking for volunteers to complete a brief sign-up page asking about their boating habits and share their contact information with the Coast Guard so a wide range of boaters can be invited to participate in the larger NRBSS survey later in the year.

To volunteer, please go to:

Thank you for completing the survey.
