Our Choices, Chances, Decisions and Stop the Bleed Presentations have been requested in places all over South Dakota this summer. Has your local driver's ed class requested a presentation yet? Tell your instructor to request a class so that their students can learn about driving sober, the importance of wearing a seatbelt, how to share the road with bikes, and Stop the Bleed! Each student will receive a bleeding control kit, so that they will be prepared if they come across a bleeding emergency. Questions? Reach out to us!

Some of the ambulance crew took part in the Sanford simulation scenarios. We are always trying to train and keep up to date on new updates and keeping our skills sharp to better care for community members needing us. Tonight we got to train on baby delivery and types of complications associated with baby deliveries. We trained on impaled objects, stroke assessments and 15ft fall with internal bleeding and broken bone stabilization. We would like to thank Sanford for coming and putting this training together for us.

We are set up at coborns until 11 for the bicycle safety rodeo. We have a course set up to ride on. We have some spare bicycles to ride through course. Have a drawing for a chance to win a new bicycle. K-5 ages but all welcome to come check it out.

HFD is trying something new for Fire Prevention this year. We have teamed up with Community Safety Net to provide kids with fire safety material. If you are a local business or would like to donate to the cause, the link is in the picture. We look forward to seeing the kids every October, and this helps beyond seeing the firefighters and trucks. This sends them home with valuable information to help create safer homes.

In the last 30 days two children in South Dakota tragically lost their lives in ATV crashes.

These tragedies are a reminder we can never be too safe. Wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), especially helmets, is an essential part of keeping our kids safe.

In South Dakota it is the law that anyone under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while riding an ATV or UTV. If there is a seat belt in your UTV make sure to buckle up.

Please make sure that your children are always wearing protective gear, and that you are keeping a close eye on them if they are riding on an ATV or UTV.
