Last night we celebrated the graduation of two of our newest recruits. Firefighter Weiss and Firefighter Ruffu both recently graduated from the TCC Basic Fire Academy. This academy is a 3 month program that provides rigorous training for those called to a career in firefighting. These recruits learn with hands on experience and cover numerous topics such as fire behavior, suppression techniques, search and rescue, first aid, and so much more. We express extreme gratitude to the instructors and support staff at Tarrant County College Fire Academy for their dedication to the teaching and guidance given to these students. These two recruits will now begin their training with the department, learning side by side with the great men that serve our great city every day. Congratulations, Firefighters Weiss and Ruffu!

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we pause to recognize the voices behind the scenes—the calm in the chaos, the steady guidance in moments of crisis.

To our dispatchers: thank you for being the unseen lifeline. Your strength, patience, and compassion make a difference in ways most will never fully understand. Every call you answer is an opportunity to bring reassurance, direction, and hope to someone on what may be their worst day. You’re the calm voice when everything else is chaos, the lifeline before we even arrive, and the ones who somehow understand us even when we’re talking through sirens, gear, and pure adrenaline.

Your work does not go unnoticed. We are grateful for your dedication, your resilience, and the positive impact you make every single day.

You are heard. You are valued. You are appreciated.

Proud to serve the community of Hurst!

💙🚒 When seconds count, heroes answer the call. 👶

Texas Health is proud to recognize Hurst Fire Department Station 1 – Medic 211, C Shift for their lifesaving response to a recent call. Upon arrival, the crew found a newborn—just 20 minutes old—who was not breathing. While staff on scene had already begun CPR, additional resources and advanced care were urgently needed.

This crew quickly took over, initiating compressions, providing life‑saving treatment, and ventilating the baby to ensure safe transport to Texas Health Harris Methodist HEB’s Emergency Department. Thanks to this incredible teamwork and quality care, this baby is now happy, healthy, and home. Kudos to Blake Barton, Kody Collins, Aidan Deering-Frank, Cody Lammons, Cory Robinson, Christopher Samples pictured below Texas Health Harris Methodist HEB emergency leaders Kristin Malvik, ED Manager and Adam Parish, EMS Liaison. 🏡✨

As we wrap up First Responder Wellness week, it's important to remember - Firefighting is a calling rooted in strength, courage, and service—but behind every helmet is a human being who also needs care.

Wellness in the fire service is more than physical fitness. It’s mental resilience, emotional balance, and the willingness to check in—not just on our communities, but on each other. The long shifts, critical incidents, and constant readiness can take a toll, and acknowledging that isn’t weakness—it’s professionalism.

Taking time to rest, talk, decompress, and seek support when needed is essential to staying healthy and effective on the job. Whether it’s a conversation with a peer, time with family, or utilizing available resources, every step toward wellness matters.

Let’s continue to build a culture where strength includes speaking up, where support is expected, and where no one carries the weight alone.

Because taking care of ourselves ensures we can continue taking care of others.

We want to thank Outback Steakhouse of Hurst for their generous donation of food, and taking care of our firefighters. Your Hurst Firefighters are proud to serve this great city!

Today was the first day of the annual 1st Responder Wellness week. The purpose of this week is to provide public safety personnel with resources and support to manage the significant mental and physical health risks inherent in their professions, as well as to honor the contributions of first responders while equipping them with tools to build a lasting culture of resilience and operational readiness.

We want to thank the amazing support and generous contribution of Soulman's BBQ for the incredible meal they provided our on duty firefighters and patrol, and the continued support for the City of Hurst.
