West Klickitat Regional Fire Authority/ SW Fire & Rescue Regional Fire Authority providing services to the City of White Salmon, Husum, BZ Corner and Snowden communities. Established September 30, 2024.

Klickitat County Fire District 3 encompasses 50 square miles in southeastern Klickitat County. The District provides fire protection and EMS service to the communities of Husum, BZ Corner, Snowden, Mountain Brook and in the urban growth area northwest of the city of White Salmon. The District also provides mutual aid response service for fire and EMS calls in the neighboring towns of Bingen and White Salmon. Mutual aid is also provided to neighboring Skamania County Fire District 3 in Underwood.

Did you know there's three identified Cascade Gaps? Upper Kittitas County, Upper Yakima County and here in the Columbia River Gorge.

Fire departments across the area are coordinating response availabilities each day.
All citizens and visitors need to be extremely aware of fire dangers moving into today and through tomorrow. Fast-moving wind-driven fires during extremly dry conditions are difficult to control and stop. Any new starts should be expected to move quickly.

Warning! Weather forecasters have issued notifications of a strong cold front moving through multiple areas beginning tomorrow, Saturday August 1st around 11:00 AM through 11:00pm. It's safe to report that there is a high confidence that wind gusts will arrive along the eastern Cascade range in the Gorge, the Columbia Basin, Upper Yakima County and all of Kittitas County will be significant and promote dangerous fast-moving fire conditions. Please do your part to prevent human caused fires and have a plan for being told to Level 3 - GO NOW warnings if fire comes to your area.
Extended Red Flag Warnings and numerous "growing" fires on the landscape in both Oregon and Washington are a reality. Firefighter's from across the country and Australia are hard at work to help control current fires. Please do your part to prevent any more. Example: Do your trailer chains drag? A quick twist to shorten them up off the ground could save a huge headache.

With a slight chance of Thunderstorms moving in to our area this evening, we ask for the public's help all across the region to be extremely diligent with fire prevention during today's heat. Mother nature is currently pulling moisture into the air south of Mt. Hood and moving north. Just a few weeks ago, another surge gave us a show. Unfortunately, that could mean fire. It could also mean fire during outflow winds which increase the speed of fire. We never know... it could happen again tonight. Remember evacuation levels: 1 - Be Ready, 2 - Be Set, 3 -Go Now. Your community heros did some amazing live-fire training today!
Fire academy began in January with each student giving several hundred hours EACH in study, numerous quizzes and tests. This has been grueling for them - and their families.

Soon IFSAC accredited testing in Vancouver at the end of the month. Give them a "like" for support!

Their dedication and commitment towards becoming skilled responders directly affects our community safety and YOUR property insurance premiums.

Please be aware... burn bans are beginning.
Stay tuned for Zone 3 date. WKRFA, Trout Lake, Glenwood and Appleton are in Zone 3.
Burning is NOT allowed within the City of Bingen. Burning within the City of White Salmon via permits are subject to being discontinued sooner if needed but no later than the same time as Zone 3.
