Lil' Hawks Early Childhood Programs The Reno County Head Start program philosophy is a system of guiding principles founded in the Head Start Performance Standards.

We are a comprehensive child development program which services children from birth to age five, pregnant women, and their families. We are a child-focused program whose overall goal is to increase the social competence of young children in low-income families. "Social competence" refers to the child's everyday effectiveness in dealing with either his or her present environment and later responsib

ilities in school and life. Social competence takes into account the interrelatedness of social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. Reno County Head Start is also a family-centered program that believes children develop in the context of their family and culture and that parents are respected as the primary educators and nurturers of their children. The program offers family members opportunities and support for growth and change. We believe that people can identify their own strengths, needs and interests and are capable of finding solutions.

Fire safety is an important part of learning at preschool, our students practice fire drills on a regular basis with staff to help everyone stay safe and prepared.

During a recent drill, one of our Pre-K friends, Logan, helped keep everyone calm by saying — while spreading his arms out very dramatically —
“It’s all ok. It’s just a drill. It’s not real. It’s just practice!” ❤️

We love seeing our students learn safety skills while supporting each other along the way!
