Four days. More than 1,500 rounds. Countless hours of instruction, practice, and evaluation.

Before a sheriff's deputy carries a firearm in the field, they must complete rigorous training designed to build proficiency, decision-making skills, and confidence under pressure. This intensive process helps ensure our deputies are prepared to serve and protect the community safely and professionally.

Community members, law enforcement officers, elected officials and families gathered Friday morning to honor the brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 2026 Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony at the Reno County Law Enforcement Center.

The ceremony remembered the lives and service of fallen deputies, officers and troopers whose dedication to protecting others will never be forgotten. Kansas Speaker of the House Daniel Hawkins served as the guest speaker, sharing remarks on the importance of supporting law enforcement and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. Thank you to everyone who support our law enforcement community and the families of the fallen.

We are forever grateful for the courage, sacrifice and commitment of those who serve. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ’™

It is a time for the nation to pause and acknowledge the courage, dedication, and dangers faced by law enforcement, including the risks taken during routine tasks. It also provides an opportunity to support the families, colleagues, and communities left behind. We hope you join us as Kansans and the Nation heal together.
