The Reno County Sheriff's Office is comprised of an 94 person agency serving a population of approximately 65,000 and covering 1250 square miles. There are three Divisions within the agency which are the Detective Division, Patrol Division and Jail Division.

The Driver/victim from yesterday's Fatality on US 50 Highway and Salem Road was William Duran of Gardner, Colorado.

Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Motorcycle and Van on US 50 Highway

At approximately 11:42 a.m. today, August 28, 2026, deputies with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an injury accident involving a motorcycle and a van at the intersection of US 50 Highway and Salem Road.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a white male deceased near a three-wheeled motorcycle and a passenger van that had sustained rear-end damage in the westbound roadway.

Preliminary investigation indicates the van was stopped, waiting for a westbound semi-truck preparing to turn south from US 50 Highway, when the motorcycle collided with the rear of the van at a high rate of speed.

The two occupants of the van were treated at the scene and released.

During the investigation, US 50 Highway was reduced to one lane of traffic. The roadway has since been fully reopened.
This accident remains under investigation. The identity of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been notified.

We would like to thank the Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Department of Transportation, Reno County District Attorney’s Office, Reno County EMS, and, as always, thank you, Dispatch, for fielding numerous phone calls and radio traffic.

Driving campaign focuses on consequences of driving impaired.

Labor Day weekend is often a time many celebrate. Reno County Sheriff's Office reminds the public to celebrate responsibly and drive sober.

Reno County Sheriff's Office joins law enforcement across the country to remind drivers to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. You can expect to see increased law enforcement presence on local roads during the nationwide safety campaign, which runs from Aug. 23- Sept. 7.

***Train versus Pedestrian Fatality***

At approximately 3:38 pm on August 18th, 2026, Deputies from the Reno County Sheriff’s Office along with KHP, Burton Fire/EMS were dispatched to a train verse pedestrian collision just north of Highway 50 on Rayl Rd, located in eastern Reno County. During the investigation it was determined a pedestrian stepped in front of the train. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our condolences are with the family. This is all the information that will be released regarding this incident.

During the month of July the Reno County Sheriff's Office conducted three DUI enforcements. Below are the results:
Total Number of Contacts: 40
DUIs: 2
Speed Warnings: 17
Speed Citations: 1
Hazardous Moving Violations: 3
Other Violation Warnings: 17

During the month of July 31 DUI suspects were booked in to the Reno County Correctional Facility.

Detectives with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office recently conducted a lengthy investigation involving numerous burglaries and thefts in our area. As a result of this investigation, Garson Stanley Boyles was arrested on May 21st, 2026, and Jimmy Ray Miller on May 27th, 2026. Garson Boyles and Jimmy Miller were arrested for 11 counts of burglary, 5 counts criminal damage to property and, 4 counts of theft. Numerous stolen items have been recovered, including a vehicle. There are still several items outstanding, if anyone has information of where any of this stolen property may be located, please contact the Sheriff's Office at (620)694-2735. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Reno County Crime Stoppers at 620 694-2666 or 800 222-TIPS.

*The person(s) involved has not yet been convicted of a crime and are presumed innocent. The presumption of innocence shall continue until such time that the person(s) accused may be found guilty by a court of law. Charges may be amended at the discretion of the District Attorney and Court.
