As we close out Telecommunications Week, we want to say thank you to everyone who supports our team along the way.

To our families and friends, thank you for standing beside us. We know the work our crews do often takes time away from the people and moments that matter most, and sometimes means missing holidays, special events, and everyday time at home. Your patience, encouragement, and support mean more than words can say. Without our family and friends, our team would not be as strong as it is.

We also want to thank the agencies we serve and work alongside every day. Your partnership, trust, and teamwork are such an important part of what we do. It takes all of us working together to keep this train moving safely down the tracks. If even one piece is missing, the train can slow down, break down, or come off the rails. But when we all do our part, we are able to provide the best service possible.

Together, we are proud to serve the citizens of Reno County, as well as all those who visit and travel through our community.

As we come to the end of Telecommunications Week, we have to recognize the engineer and conductor of our train. They may say this week is not about them, but about the teams on the floor and behind the scenes doing the hard work. While that is true, they are the ones helping keep this train rolling steadily and staying on the tracks every single day.

Please meet our wonderful engineer, Mackenzie.
Mackenzie is always bringing forward great ideas to improve and motivate our team. She helps push our center forward by looking for ways to strengthen operations, encourage growth, and support the people who make this work happen. Her leadership, energy, and commitment help create an environment where our team can keep learning, improving, and serving with excellence. We are grateful for the vision and encouragement she brings to our center.

Last but certainly not least, meet our train conductor, Stacie!
Stacie knows the ins and outs of the dispatch center because she has truly walked in our shoes. Her journey from dispatcher, to supervisor, to assistant director, and now director gives her a deep understanding of the work, the challenges, and the dedication it takes to serve in this field. She helps keep the wheels greased so that our train cars full of dispatchers and Quality Assurance team members can do their jobs each day. Her experience, leadership, and steady guidance help keep our center moving in the right direction, no matter what the day may bring.

Both Mackenzie and Stacie play an important role in giving our team the tools, support, and leadership we need to succeed. With both of them helping lead this train, they make it possible for us to be a strong team, provide excellent service to the agencies we serve, and deliver the best care possible to the citizens of Reno County.

Meet our other Quality Assurance team member helping keep the train rolling behind the scenes — Kevin!

Kevin serves as a part-time member of our QA team, and while we may see him popping in and out during the week, especially during the evening hours, the work he does makes an important impact on our center. His time and effort help ensure that quality service and support continue across all shifts.

Kevin plays an important role in reviewing calls and radio traffic, helping make sure our team stays on the right track with protocol compliance, consistency, and service to the community. Having that extra support, especially during evening hours, helps strengthen our center and ensures that quality assurance remains an ongoing priority.

We appreciate Kevin for the work he does behind the scenes and for helping keep this train moving steadily in the right direction.

First up in our Quality Assurance car is Kacey.

Kacey is our full-time QA team member, and she helps keep this train rolling smoothly behind the scenes. With her previous experience working full-time as a dispatcher, she brings valuable firsthand knowledge to the Quality Assurance role. She understands the fast pace, the pressure, and the importance of every call and every radio transmission because she has been in that seat herself.

That experience allows Kacey to provide meaningful feedback, guidance, and support to our team in a way that is both knowledgeable and encouraging. She helps make sure we stay on the right track by promoting consistency, protocol compliance, and high-quality service for the community we serve.

We are grateful to have Kacey helping guide this part of the journey and for all she does to support our center every day.

Let’s talk Quality Assurance on this train ride.

They may not be the ones answering every call or keying up on the radio each day, but our Quality Assurance Team is a huge part of our dispatch family and an essential part of keeping our center on the right track. We work closely with them every day to help ensure our service stays consistent, accurate, and centered on the best care possible for our community.

HRCEC uses International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) protocols, and our Quality Assurance Unit helps make sure those protocols are followed correctly on every call. They review both calls and radio traffic to ensure dispatchers are asking the right questions in the right order, providing the correct pre-arrival instructions such as CPR and bleeding control, and delivering safe, consistent, and high-quality service to the residents of Reno County.

Their work is detailed and continuous. A typical day for QA includes listening to many calls, reviewing lots of radio traffic, and working directly with dispatchers through training, coaching, and support. In 2025, they completed 4,806 total QA reviews, including both calls and radio traffic, with a monthly average of around 400 reviews.

That kind of dedication has a direct impact on the strength of our center. The Quality Assurance Team helps us learn, improve, and stay confident in the service we provide every day. We are incredibly grateful for all they do behind the scenes and alongside our team to help keep this train moving in the right direction.

Our final dispatcher on this train ride is Catheryn.

Catheryn is also one of the newest members of our center, and we are so glad she has joined our team. She has completed classroom training and has now moved on to call taking, which is an important milestone in her journey. This next step gives her the opportunity to continue building confidence, sharpening her skills, and gaining firsthand experience in serving our community.

Starting out in this field takes focus, patience, and the ability to stay calm while learning something new every day. Catheryn and Moriah has already begun building those skills, and we are proud to have them as part of our team. We look forward to watching them continue to grow and succeed in our center.

Please enjoy the rest of the ride as we introduce our final group of dispatchers, along with some of the special people who help keep our center running. Though Telecommunications Week is nearly over, our journey is not quite finished yet.

First on our train today is Moriah.

Moriah is one of the newest members of our center, and we are excited to have her on board. She has successfully completed classroom training and is now putting that knowledge into action as she works through calltaking. That is a big step, and it reflects both her hard work and her commitment to learning the important role of public safety communications.
