Hyampom VFD joined Hayfork, Post Mountain, and South County Fire Depts. at Hayfork VFD on Sat. April 30,2022 for an all day wildfire training and testing exercise hosted by Hayfork VFD/ Cal Fire and the U.S.F.S. Each VFD rotated between four stations conducting mock structure protection exercises, pump operations, shelter deployment, wildland hose lays, and safety positioning if/when in the path of water or fire retardant drops. Cal Fire designed the training so the fire fighters could be "red card" certified and ready for fire season. Thank you to Cal Fire instructor Dave Johnston for putting this together. What a great opportunity it was to work with and meet the other volunteer fire departments!

A brief summary of yesterday's meeting at the fire hall.
We had a good turnout and besides members of the Alsaka Team, we had the district rangers from Hayfork and Weaverville speaking also.
The gist of it all that I got out of it is that they are going to be using a "soft touch" approach in dealing with the fire up in the Haypress Triangle, letting the fire slowly back down and to the west while adding just a minimal amount of fire to keep the main fire squared up, reducing the chances of it taking off.
Heard today that pressure from Washington DC, from the office of the Sec. of Ag is asking for a documented plan for their actions in the proposed Pattison Peak Wilderness Area. This should create a plan that would minimize firing operations in the area that would continue when a new Incident Command Team joins us in a week.
They'll continue to prep lines on the 08 Rd in case they need it as a control line but they are now saying that if they can keep the fire on the north side of Hayfork Creek, they will. That's a change from what they told us originally, so we hope that, like two previous fire in that area, it doesn't cross Hayfork Creek.
They are also bringing in a grader to fix Pelletreau Ridge Road as an alternative "ingress and egress" route in case the Hyampom Rd is closed.

Meeting time change:

Monday, August 23, 2021 Meeting at
Hyampom Fire Hall has been changed from 3pm to
4pm.

Kale Casey is leaving Redding and will be here around 4pm bringing new maps and to answer questions. He's also bringing the Branch Director, Jake Livingston, to explain their plan to box in the fire west of Hayfork which could include the Hyampom Road.

Kale Casey of the Alaska Team will be in Hyampom later this afternoon. Will let you know when we find out what time. Heard the 60 rd. is still holding but it will be tested today when the smoke clears later. The smoke will be clearing due to a wind shift that should last for a few days.
