We know the news these days is overwhelming and changing fast. We’re trying to capture the top items for Hyattsville residents each week with a regular Wednesday recap. Keep your eyes out for these posts and share with your networks! All this news and more is regularly updated on our COVID-19 web page at www.hyattsville.org/covid-19.

This week:
1. To prevent the continued spread of the novel Coronavirus, Governor Larry Hogan has issued a Stay-At-Home Executive Order for all Marylanders. Citizens should leave their home only for essential needs like groceries, medical appointments, caring for a family member, attending a job designated as essential, or for outdoor recreation. When in public you should practice safe social distancing (6 feet apart) and gathering in groups of more than 10 persons is prohibited. Violating this Order can result in a misdemeanor charge resulting in an arrest or a fine. All non-essential businesses must close to the public, with employees telecommuting if possible. Non-essential businesses can provide delivery of goods but cannot allow curbside pickup. For detailed guidance, you can find the full Executive Order as well as specific resources for residents and businesses on www.hyattsville.org/covid-19.

2. FedEx Field is now open as a COVID-19 Screening Clinic on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You must make an appointment to be screened. Call the Prince George’s County Coronavirus Hotline for more information and to schedule at (301) 883-6627.

3. Prince George’s County Public Schools has released a plan for K-12 virtual learning through the current school closure date of April 24. They are providing laptops for students at the child’s boundary school from April 1 to April 3 between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students can also get three meals a day at several county schools weekdays between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal distribution site in Hyattsville is Nicholas Orem Middle School. You can find the planned virtual education calendar at https://www.pgcps.org/coronavirus/continuity-learning/. Leaving your home to pick up educational materials and daily meals is allowed under the Governor’s Stay-At-Home Order.

4. The City of Hyattsville has extended event cancellations and postponements through April 27. The full list of cancellations and limited or reduced City services can be found at www.hyattsville.org/covid-19.

Starting Monday, April 6, City Yard Waste and Compost pick up will be limited to the first and third Mondays of the month. This allows Department of Public Works staff adjust their schedules in response to social distancing and extra sanitation measures during the #COVID-19 outbreak.

Thank you to our essential DPW staff for their hard work during this crisis! City Trash and County Recycling pick up will continue on a regular schedule for the time being.

Becoming effective at 8 p.m. on March 30, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has issued a stay-at-home Executive Order. Residents may only travel or commute for essential reasons and a violation of the Order can result in a misdemeanor or an arrest.
