St. Ann's Center for Children, Youth and Families

St. Ann's Center for Children, Youth and Families St. Ann’s is a 501(c)3 organization serving children and young mothers in crisis. Since 1860, St. We also provide developmental child care.

We help mothers and children overcome crisis and achieve lasting independence and stability by providing a safe and supportive home, child care, education and employment assistance, and social work services within a Catholic community that welcomes all. Ann’s has been a pioneer in developing programs to help the Metropolitan Washington, DC area’s most vulnerable women and children, adapting our se

rvices to respond to the needs of the day. Ann’s has served as an orphanage, an adoption agency, an emergency shelter for abused children, a training ground for teenage mothers and an affordable day care program for working families. Today we offer three residential programs for abused and neglected children, teen mothers in foster care and their babies, and young single mother families. The foundlings and unprotected females we helped in 1860 are seen in the children and young women we serve today.

❤️ What we care about can live on.

This Make-A-Will Month, we're reflecting on these words from
Sister Nancy: “A will is more than a legal document. It can be one of
our final reflections on what we cared about, who shaped our lives, and what we
hope will continue beyond us.”

By creating or updating your will, you have the opportunity to support the people and causes that matter most to you for years to come.

Please consider including St. Ann’s Center in your legacy plans and helping women and children for generations to come.

For women who have experienced homelessness, housing instability, trauma, or gaps in support, wellness is about more than developing healthy habits. It can mean having the safety, time, and consistent support to heal, rebuild routines, strengthen relationships, and plan for the future. 💙

Rev. Denise Burriss, St. Ann’s Center’s Health & Wellness Coordinator, shares how Life Skills classes create opportunities for residents to build on the strengths and resilience they already possess while practicing skills that support their goals for themselves and their children.

This work is part of St. Ann’s Center’s coordinated approach to helping mothers and children move toward lasting stability and thriving.

Watch Rev. Denise share why Life Skills matter at St. Ann’s Center.

Wellness for a mother and her child is deeply connected. 💙

At St. Ann's Center, opportunities to care for your well-being are part of the holistic, trauma-informed, and strengths-based support women receive as they build stability and new futures.

Recently, seven women participated in a yoga, Pilates, and sound bowl session through our Health & Wellness program, offered during weekly Life Skills class. The session created space to slow down, breathe, move, and reconnect.

While the women participated, their children were cared for by St. Ann's staff and volunteers—making it possible for mothers to take this time for themselves while their children remained safe and supported.

It's one example of how St. Ann's takes a holistic, two-generation approach: supporting women in their own wellness while creating stronger foundations for their children.

🌿 We'll be sharing more about what wellness looks like at St. Ann's—and why a mother's wellness and her child's well-being are so deeply connected.

Mothers and children at St. Ann’s Center are kicking off the new school year with new backpacks, snacks, classroom supplies and, most importantly, plenty of love, support and encouragement from our dear friends Tonya, Meg and the amazing volunteers at Live Nation Concerts and Jiffy L**e Live! ❤️

For the fifth year in a row, this annual tradition has brought families together for a special back-to-school “shopping” experience where children and moms get to choose their own supplies, enjoy some snacks and spend time with a community that understands the joys and challenges a new school year can bring.

Thank you, Meg, Tonya Sharpe, and your teams, for five years of creating such a fun, thoughtful and rockin’ back-to-school experience for the families at St. Ann’s! 🎒🎸

Four families arrived. Four families moved forward. 💙

August has been a month of new beginnings at St. Ann’s Center.

Four mothers and their children recently entered our residential programs, beginning new chapters with support from our team. At the same time, four additional families transitioned into stable housing in the community. Your support makes these and other new chapters possible for the families who journey with us. Thank you!
