08/27/2026

Yesterday at 4:49pm, Truck 1 and Engine 1 were alerted to respond to reports of a house fire in the 7800 Blk of Powhatan St. (Co. 28’s area). Engine Co. 30 arrived and reported smoke showing, starting the Working Fire Dispatch. Truck 1 arrived shortly thereafter and assumed 1st due truck responsibilities. Engine 1 arrived and stretched a backup line off of 30 and made entry through the front door, knocking several rooms of fire. Truck 1 completed searches and assisted with opening up void spaces for the engines to access. Company 1, with 10 Volunteers, operated on scene for 2 hours before returning to service. 🔥

Yesterday afternoon Engine Co. 1 went first due to the 8100 block of Paint Branch Dr in College Park (Co. 12’s area). Chief 812a went on scene with fire on the roof. The Engine Co. performed a line over ladder to make a knock of all fire on the roof. The Company operated for two hours before returning to service. 🔥 # hv1fd

On July 17, Truck 1 operated as the first due truck company on this mid rise fire in the 600 Block of Sheridan St in Chillum - Company 44’s area. Truck 1 conducted searches, overhaul, and ventilation. 🔥

Continuing our Summer Recap Series on July 15 when Squad 1 responded to New Hampshire Ave & Metzerott Rd in Adelphi for this triple fatal Personal Injury Accident with Entrapment. Squad 1 extricated two patients from the vehicles and operated for approximately 2 hours.

We start off on June 22 when Engine 1 was dispatched for an outside fire off of Sheridan and 24th Pl in Chillum. While enroute, PSC advised units of multiple reports of the house on fire. Engine 1 arrived and reported multiple detached structures on fire with no extension to the house. Engine 1 made a knock of all fire and returned to the Belcrest Road firehouse after 2 hours. 🔥🔥

The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department joins the fire service community and fans around the world in mourning the passing of Randy Mantooth, best known for his iconic role as firefighter/paramedic John Gage on *Emergency!*

Randy and *Emergency!* inspired generations to enter the fire and EMS services and played an important role in introducing millions of Americans to the emerging field of paramedicine.

Our department was honored to share a special connection to that legacy. In 2000, HVFD hosted *Emergency! Fest*, welcoming thousands of fans from across the country for a reunion of the show's cast and a rare opportunity to see the real Squad 51.

We are proud to have played a small part in celebrating a television series—and the people behind it—that had such a lasting impact on the fire and EMS community.

Rest easy, Randy. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations of firefighters and paramedics.

On the morning of America’s 250th birthday, Squad 1 was dispatched to Metzerott Road & Saint Andrews Place for a personal injury accident with entrapment. Squad 1 arrived on scene, stabilized the vehicle, and promptly extricated 2 patients. Squad 1 then returned to the Belcrest Road firehouse to continue serving the surrounding communities on this 4th of July weekend.

Engine 1 went first due to the 3700 Blk of Gallatin St. for a detached structure fire with numerous exposure issues and reported people trapped, earlier this week. Engine 1 arrived, knocked all fire, and safely evacuated all residents. Engine 1 operated for 2 hours before returning to service. 🔥

At 4:33pm Truck 1 was alerted to respond as the first due truck to the 9200 Blk of Morley Rd. (Co. 28’s area) for multiple calls reporting a house on fire. Battalion Chief 1 arrived on scene to a 2 story split foyer with fire showing from the 2nd floor on the alpha side. Truck 1 arrived and the interior crew made access to the fire, while completing searches, and opening up for Rescue Engine 18, while the outside team laddered the building, secured utilities and softened up the exterior. Truck 1 remained on scene for 2 hours before returning to Hyattsville. 🔥🔥🔥

Squad 1 extricated the driver from this vehicle on its side, in a ravine, at Guilford Dr. and Rowalt Dr. in College Park this past weekend.
