Dear Students of the CIA,

My name is Alex Hess, and I intend to run for Junior Senator for the Culinary Institute of America. I have spent the last three semesters serving on Student Government working on projects that ranged from communications to curriculum, though my main focus has always been finance. With your help, I intend to apply the experience that I have gained towards reforming the funding system for student organizations in order to make it more streamlined and efficient for both Student Government, and the student organizations themselves. I look forward to continuing to serve the student body to the best of my ability, should I be reelected to Student Government.

Faithfully Yours,
Alex Hess

To the Student Body:
My name is Dominique Rattelade and I am running for your Sophomore Senator on the Student Government Association. As senator, I will be aiding our administration and peers on
enacting changes for the better of our community. In the past, I have been a member of a branch of my local government, the Youth Advisory Board, a position appointed by the Mayor and
Trustees. Monthly, we would meet to discuss a range of village matters such as implementing laws and discussing budgets for various departments and I would be present to represent the
views of the Fairport youth. Along with this, I am a founding member of the Fairport Public Arts Committee. As a committee, we work to introduce new ideas to promote the spirit of the village as well as voting on both new and old art projects of various degrees to implement, including murals, public walkways, signage, and sculptures. Through all of this, I have gained essential skills such as leadership, conducting
professional forums, addressing a community on topics that make a difference, as well as putting thought into action to formulate and complete necessary tasks.

I am currently a Culinary Arts bachelor's student in my third term at the CIA with a planned major of Culinary Science. I am a member of the Sustainability Committee and a Sustainability Ambassador for my current kitchen class. Furthermore, I am a member of the Curriculum Committee, which has goals that are working to push the school into a bigger and brighter future for all of the students.

With me as your Sophomore Senator, everyone will be given the opportunity to voice their opinions and have them be heard. I will help to create an environment that is open to all varieties of discourse. With me as your Sophomore Senator, we will all work together to create one Culinary Institute.

Thank you for your consideration,
Dominique Rattelade

Dear CIA Student Body,

My name is Linton Hopkins. I am a Sophomore in the Direct Entry Bachelor’s Program here at the CIA. I write this letter to show my intent and determination to become your Sophomore Senator on the Student Government Association for next semester. In regards to my background, I have been in the hospitality industry ever since my family opened their first restaurant. It wasn’t long before any thing I was doing outside of middle and high school was related to the restaurant. I was lucky enough and am very grateful that I had the opportunity to train and work under industry professionals across the companies I worked for. Throughout my career before the CIA, I was able to learn a lot about management and leadership roles of the industry. This unparalleled education, unbeknownst to me, has become the perfect training to serve on the SGA. Since joining the CIA, I have been working hard to put myself in programs that help not only the students, but bring the school to a more professional and sustainable place. Joining the Sustainability Committee, Curriculum Committee, and becoming a Culinary Garden manager have shown me a side of the Culinary which is very important to me. This is the connection between the administration and students. My job as a Sophomore Senator is to work tirelessly on ensuring that students have the pathways to air any concern on campus, and that there is a team always there to air those concerns to the administration. Through the team of senators and student representatives, the SGA has a unique opportunity to bring significant change to the CIA. My overall goal is to aid this change in every way possible, and to bring the student body closer to the administration in a constructive and lasting way. What I really want to bring to the CIA is a system where everyone can communicate and discuss what needs to happen to make our school one that continues to produce industry leaders.

Sincerely,
Linton Hopkins

Say hello to Payton Spear, the first candidate for Sophomore Senator! Below is Payton's letter of intent for the position. Link to vote: https://goo.gl/FGzQou

Dear CIA Students,

It is with great hope that I wish to become a member of the student government association. I have seen the many hours of hard work and dedication that SGA members commit to making a difference in every students' lives and I would be honored to become a member of that change by running for Sophomore Senator.

Ever since coming to the Culinary Institute of America back in January of last year, all I have wanted to do is become involved. From being an avid member of Spice to volunteering my time through social media outlets through the school. Making sure that other people can see the many opportunities available to those who are willing to put themselves out there. My love for baking had begun at a young age and has never left me, hence why I am here, pursuing my dreams at my dream school. Now there is another passion of mine that I can achieve why’ll on campus and that is making a difference in my community. To make the biggest impact for my classmates through representing them. Hearing their concerns and opinions and putting them into action. Without student representatives, we would be left without an outlet to communicate to the place that we spend so much of our time.

I wish to help others in any way possible and to have seen an opportunity such as this, it is my greatest hope that you will consider me for the position of Sophomore Senator. I believe that I can bring on a forward thinking, team building, optimistic attitude to your board. Thank you very much for your consideration.

Meet the final candidate for Freshmen Senator, Ishaan Chitnis. Below is Ishaan's letter of intent for the Senator position. Link to vote: https://goo.gl/FGzQou

My name is Ishaan Chitnis. With this letter I hereby request you to consider me for the
position of Freshman Senator. I have held a few positions of responsibility, in my previous
college as I was elected as the class representative for three years, by faculty members, the
only reason I couldn’t apply for the post of an officer in the student government in my
previous college, was because their policy was against electing commuter students.

Aside from Class representative, I was chosen as the food service manager for two important
festival celebrations in my college and was the chef in charge for a Vietnamese buffet
assignment. This really helped me learn how to not only work with, but also handle large
groups. Having very little time to prepare during the festivals, I learnt critical thinking, which
might prove useful to the SGA.
By electing me you will be assured of having someone in your team who can work
collaborating effectively with all the group members. I will make sure that the opinions of the
freshmen batch, is reflected through my decisions. Moreover, I am a person who makes
connections quite easily and people feel comfortable coming to me with issues or to generally
make conversations or ask questions.

As freshman senator I would like to make sure that my classmates and fellow freshmen have
an inclusive atmosphere socially and academically.

Sincerely,
Ishaan Chitnis

Introducing the next candidate for Freshmen Senator, Destiny Petty. Below is Destiny's letter of intent for the Senator position. Link to vote: https://goo.gl/FGzQou

Hello, my name is Destiny Petty. I am in my first term of the Culinary Arts Associate’s degree. When I arrived at the CIA in January, I was not quite sure what to expect. I was apprehensive not only about making new friends, but also about the course work I would soon be taking on. One thing I did come to school confident in was my determination to being a part of something bigger throughout my time here. I spent these past three months getting acclimated to the student life and exploring various clubs and activities that the CIA has to offer. Now, I am ready to start being able to help others as an active leader of my student class, as well as determine what we, as a class, want to bring to the Culinary Institute of America.

Back at home in Horseheads, New York, I completed a two year culinary program at my vocational school. I had many opportunities to meet new people and experiment with new things that were out of my comfort zone such as competing in culinary competitions, and being the President of my BOCES class. My senior year I was elected SkillsUSA Co-President, along with winning Student of the Year out of 700 students. Over the summer I worked as a Team Leader on a food truck which allowed me to learn and participate from a whole new perspective. As I look back on everything that I’ve participated in during high school and especially at my culinary school, I am really proud of my accomplishments and growth as both a student and a leader. I want to continue to perform as a leader here at the Culinary Institute of America.

I am running for Freshman Senator. I believe I would be great for this leadership job due to my title of President back at my vocational school. I was taught how to make decisions for a full class, and what we should undertake in order to lead us to great achievements. I can additionally use my experience in time-management skills that I obtained throughout my many competitions to stay on track in this position. I believe my work ethic and passion will lead me to success as the Freshman Senator, along with my ability to work as a team to do a job well done.

To the Student Body:

Personally, when it comes down to arriving at the CIA, I knew from the very beginning that I was meant to do great things at this school. I knew that it was going to be a tough journey to get to the top of the school, especially for a freshman that’s been here a little over 3 months. Yet I’m applying to run for senator mainly to develop more of my leadership skills.
In past work experience I execute well, I work well with others, and I have the loyalty of a knight to a king. However, that’s the role I’ve played so far; the knight. I’m putting myself out there to develop my own skills as a leader. I would enjoy being a part of this team in order to better the school as a whole. Along with picking up some independent charisma, so that one day I can stand forward so that I may guide others to the right path.
