We love seeing our partner bring health initiatives to Suffolk County. By bringing access to free fresh food and access to on-site nutritionists directly to neighborhoods like Hyde Park.

Huge thank you to Bacaro’s for hosting us for our Green Team Fundraiser!

We had an incredible evening filled with delicious food, wonderful company, and powerful community connections. Because of everyone who showed up and supported us, we are proud to announce that we have officially reached our goal to fund a passenger van rental!

This means our youth team is officially cleared for takeoff on their upcoming outdoor excursion, where they’ll get to learn firsthand about the importance of conservation in Massachusetts.

It truly wouldn’t be possible to keep our youth programs growing without the incredible support you all showed.

Missed the event but still want to support the Green Team? While we’ve met our goal for the van, you can still help us fund even more incredible activities and future programming for our youth! Consider donating today to help us keep this momentum going. 🌲

Celebrating 25 Years of Southwest Boston CDC!

This year, we are celebrating 25 years of working together to build affordable housing, protect beautiful green spaces, and create truly equitable neighborhoods in Hyde Park and Roslindale! This incredible milestone belongs to our whole community, and we are so proud of what we have built together.

When you support Southwest Boston CDC, you make a massive difference in our neighbors’ lives:
    •    The Green Team: For 18 years, our youth stewardship program has employed over 200 Boston high school students, teaching them vital conservation skills while they earn a paycheck! Program graduates are doing amazing things, going on to work for sustainable building companies in Boston, the Climate Reality Project in D.C., and beyond.
    •    95 Affordable Homes: Together, we have built and preserved 95 affordable apartments! We made history as the first to use Boston’s Acquisition Opportunity Program in 2016 to stop displacement, we built 26 transit-oriented homes at Fairmount Station, and the state just approved funding to rehab our 68 Homes Preservation Project!

Like many community development and social justice organizations nationwide, we are facing city, state, and federal budget cuts that threaten our legacy and the affordability of these homes.
We need your energy and support to keep this vital work going strong for the next 25 years! Please consider making a powerful impact with a donation today:

    •    The 25th Anniversary Gift: Consider a donation of $2,500 to honor 25 years of dedicated service to Hyde Park and Roslindale!

    •    Get 50% Back: Any donation of $1,000 or more qualifies for the Massachusetts Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC), which gives you a fantastic 50% of your donation right back!

Let’s keep our communities strong, green, and affordable.

We are proud to share these conceptual renderings for 23 A Street and the Doyle Street park project! These designs represent a long history of community-led advocacy, starting with our early work alongside neighbors to transform the Doyle Street lot into a park.
Today, this vision continues through our Green Initiatives and our close partnership with the Community Land Trust (CLT). We’ve been honored to support the CLT through advisory leadership and grant-writing support as they work to secure 23 A Street as their first official property.

By partnering with the CLT and the Neponset River Access Committee, we are ensuring that these riverfront spaces are preserved and shaped by the values of Hyde Park residents. We look forward to many more victories for our neighborhood!

A quote from Frank O’Brien “The new land trust we are setting up will focus on natural land preservation, focusing on sites not suitable for housing and especially along the Neponset River and Mother Brook. This approach will complement South West Boston CDC affordable housing and green team priorities and City goals for protecting urban tree canopy. Our progress so far would not have been possible without SWBCDC’s guidance and we look forward to completing positive projects very soon!”

City Hall is proposing significant zoning changes for Hyde Park Ave and River Street, including new developments up to 7 stories high. Our community has serious concerns about how this will impact our neighborhood’s character and quality of life.

Why this matters:

Neighborhood Impact: Potential for increased traffic congestion and a "canyon effect" on our streets.

Environmental Concerns: No requirements for additional tree canopy or green space, worsening urban heat islands.

Displacement Risks: Concerns over resident and business displacement and a lack of sufficient affordable housing requirements.

Infrastructure: No additional parking requirements despite the increase in density.

Get Involved:

Community Meeting: Join your neighbors this Monday (April 27) at The Pryde (57 Harvard Ave) between 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. We’ll be sharing updates, discussing strategies for development without displacement, and writing letters together (plus free snacks!).

Submit Your Feedback: City representatives will only count comments submitted via the official feedback form.

Deadline: All comments must be submitted before May 1, 2026.

Let’s make sure Hyde Park’s voice is heard! Scan the QR codes in the images to access the feedback form and view the full community-proposed zoning plan.

An enormous Thank You to the North American Indian Center of Boston (NAICOB) for hosting such a meaningful Earth Day celebration! 🌎🪶

We had an absolutely wonderful time and are so grateful that The Green Team are members of the Youth Conservation Corps Coalition. It was incredibly inspiring to gather and learn under the guidance of Lauren Peters.

A special highlight for our youth was the hands-on opportunity to sow seeds 🌿 and create beautiful corn husk dolls, all while connecting with Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
