For those experiencing homelessness, it's important to stay hydrated and seek out cooling centers, for example, the Morristown Centennial Library tomorrow and Saturday. People often underestimate the heat in Vermont, and also the humidity, which will be quite high over the next few days. High humidity means that your body will have a harder time regulating your temperature outdoors!

The heat and and humidity is here! Early in the summer, during these first hot and humid days we are not acclimated to the heat like we are later in the season. With the NWS HeatRisk, the risk of heat-related impacts are provided on a town by town basis: we encourage you to check out the interactive map at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/heatrisk/.

Multiple members of our team attended the Lamoille Housing Summit at JCOGs this Tuesday including Executive Director Kim Anetsberger, Director of Development and Communications Nate Beyer and Director of Operations and Services Nicole Chauvin.

Kim spoke on a panel about stigma and our systems of care. Here's a quote from the linked article:

Kim Anetsberger, executive director of the Lamoille Community House, said stigma around homelessness and poverty remains one of the deepest barriers.

“Our society has taught us that people in poverty are less valuable,” Anetsberger said, adding that it “actively works to dehumanize people in our systems.”

How are you making a difference to de-stigmatize homelessness? We all have a role in changing the narrative. Let us know in the comments what you have found is helpful in creating meaningful conversations that are rooted in seeing people living in poverty as real human beings.

Today's podcast was recorded on a very auspicious occasion: the day Jimmy signed a lease on an apartment after years of being in and out of shelters and living on the streets.

In this episode, Jimmy talks about his early years in a family that struggled with alcohol abuse, then found love and loss, homelessness and addiction, and, ultimately, recovery., and the work it takes to get there.

Lamoille Community House would like to honor the life and legacy of Roger Nicholls — a founding member of LCH, former board treasurer, and someone who believed deeply in this organization and its mission.

Roger dedicated years of service to helping guide LCH through its early days. He advocated for the organization in the community, gave countless hours of his time, and helped ensure the organization remained strong and sustainable as it grew from a small seasonal shelter into the year-round organization it is today.

More than anything, Roger believed in people. He believed in this work, in the importance of community, and in the idea that no one should have to face hardship alone.

As treasurer, Roger cared deeply about the fiscal health of the organization, so it was no surprise to see a link to donate to LCH in his honor on his obituary page. Even then, Roger was still finding ways to support the work and the community he cared so much about.

This photo and quote are from 2021 when we showcased everyone on our team by doing board, volunteer, and staff spotlights. Roger believed in our ability to solve whatever problem was thrown our way, and he was right! Throughout the years, we faced challenges but stayed strong in our beliefs and mission, resulting in our growth and our ability to serve so many more people.

Thank you, Roger, for your years of service, your encouragement, and for always believing in us. Your impact on this organization and community will not be forgotten.
