UPDATE: All lanes have been opened back up now.

Press Release: Due to the high winds and low visibility on I94 around the Treasure-Rosebud County line (MM78), we had multiple vehicles crash resulting in one fatality. For a while both East and West bound lanes were closed down with traffic being diverted at the Rosebud exit and Sarpy Creek exit. Currently the West bound lanes are open with progress being made to open the East bound side. One lane will be open shortly and we ask that people please drive carefully as they head east. The family of the deceased has been notified but at this time we are not releasing names in an attempt to give them some privacy and time to process this tragedy. I would like to thank Rosebud County Sheriff's Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Montana Motor Carrier Services, Rosebud County EMS, Edit: Rosebud County Fire, and Montana DOT for helping out. We will update this post with further information once it becomes available.
Again my deepest condolences goes out to the family in these difficult times.

SEVERE WIND ADVISORY! It is highly recommended to not be out driving around right now. There have been multiple reports of low visibility (at times down to about 5 feet) all over the County. Near the Rosebud-Treasure County line on I94 (EDIT: 78-79 Mile Markers) MM79-80, at least one accident has been reported with several other vehicles off the side of the road or parked on the shoulder. We suggest people who are traveling through to stay in Billings or Miles City until the wind dies down.

Great news for Treasure County! Early this spring Tim Sheehy's Office made all counties in MT aware of a few grant opportunities. I was able to apply to 2 of them through his office and on Aug. 7th they reached out to let me know the following. " Hi Sheriff Seastrom, I just wanted to give you an update- the Senate Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee chose to put $92,000 towards the Treasure County Sheriff's patrol vehicle purchase and $127,000 for the Search and Rescue equipment projects! Considering how competitive these CDS grants are - especially with the CJS bill, which is a small pot of $$ - we are thrilled to see your projects fully funded.
While this is a step in the right direction, we still will need to see final passage of the bill this fall to ensure DOJ is able to distribute those funds. We'll keep you updated over the next few months as we learn more."

If fully funded for both grants this will allow the Sheriff's Office to have a brand new pursuit rated patrol pickup fully equipped, a side-by-side, ATV, a trailer to haul both, Search and Rescue Boat, and a drone equipped to handle day and night operations. These much needed resources will help our community in many different ways and also allow us to be more self sufficient while cutting down response times instead of waiting for available outside agency resources to come and assist us. I will keep everyone up to date on the final outcome of these grants.

This would be a total of $219,000 in grant funding that our community will benefit greatly from.

Once again a huge shout out and thank you to Senator Tim Sheehy's Office.

On Saturday, June 21st, I responded to a report of a camper roof that had blown/torn off and was blocking traffic on I94 near MM 58 in the West Bound lanes (Hysham Hills). Once on scene and the roadway was cleared of debris, we were left with an intact camper roof leaning against the guard railing when these two young men stopped and offered to cut it up and haul it off for us.

I wanted to take this time to give a shout out to Campbels Elite Contractor LLC and owner Wesley Campbel. Their company/employees moved quickly to get the job done. They are based out of Roundup and if you have a y questions for them, they can be reached at 406-301-0790.
