I want to start this off by stating that we asked permission before posting this for all to see.

This picture is of our fatal structure fire that we were paged out to in Salix at 00:45 Saturday morning. This is what our firefighters were faced with right when they arrived on scene.

As you can see in the picture a lone firefighter is standing there. He is waiting for his second man to get behind him and for the engine operator to get the pump going to get them water.

Remember, at 00:45 in the morning these brave men are sound asleep in their homes with their families and are abruptly woken up to 3 very loud and startling beeps from their pagers.

Within seconds they spring out of bed and rush to get their clothes on and hurry out the door to get to the station. Some of these volunteers live in town, some live out in the rural area, and a couple live in another town.

Once at the station it is a mad scramble to get all of their personal protective gear on and get in to the trucks and race to the scene. Once at the scene this is the first image of what they are about to walk in to knowing that someone is trapped inside. Now that they are on scene they have to devise a quick plan of action, pull the hand lines off of the truck, and get their water supply going.

Now take a good look at this picture. This is what our Brave Volunteers are about to encounter when just a few short minutes before they were sound asleep in their homes.

May God bless our First Responders

Red Flag Warning Issued for Western Iowa Friday; Fire Weather Watch Continues Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon to 9 PM Friday, with a Fire Weather Watch in place for Saturday.

Strong winds and very low humidity will create dangerous fire conditions across parts of southwest and west central Iowa. Winds Friday could gust up to 30 mph, with even stronger gusts up to 40 mph expected Saturday, combined with humidity dropping as low as 15 percent.

Any fire that starts could spread quickly. The Crawford County Burn Ban is still active.

Great Message from the Fire Marshall.

Great Message from the Fire Marshall.

Spring has sprung in Iowa—and so have the fire risks! As you dust off the grill, rake the yard, and tackle spring cleaning, don't forget to check your smoke alarms, clear those flammable hazards, and fire-proof your home.
