Alpenglow Lilac Gardens

Alpenglow Lilac Gardens The gardens are open Wednesday -Sunday 9-5! Dogs are welcome! Alpenglow Gardens began in 2003 as a gift of 15 plants from Reva Ballreich, a local horticulturist.

Reva was a major grower and hybridizer in the Western United States. Like The Pied Piper, she led visitors through the acres of blooming lilacs in her collection of 800 varieties. Reva's enthusiasm and wonder of Syrigna vulgarus led me down the lilac path. Alpenglow Lilac Gardens opened in 2009. Over 200 lilacs which bloom in late April-may are located on a one acre garden at the bast of Lily Rock

in Idyllwild, California. The collection contains over 155 varieties from all over the world. Alpenglow is divided into 11 gardens honoring a specific theme or hybridizer. Gary Parton's garden is now open and hosting 100's of varieties of Lilac's in his Alpinglow Lilac Garden AKA Idyllwild Lilac Garden. Gary is saying that they will be in full bloom in the next 2 weeks. Sadly, this is the last year to see these beauties as Gary will be moving off the mountain later this year. Come and treat yourself to this small pardise with all the colors and aromas. It has been one of the best thing on this mountain for decades.
Also thanks to Gary, we have our own aromatic beauty pictured here. She is one of the 100s registered with the International Lilac Association and her name is Idyllwild.
