PRESS RELEASE

Happy Days!!!! After a meeting this morning with Central Paving, the 2026 Village of Ilion Paving Project is set to commence with milling on Wednesday or Thursday next week (May 6 or 7, 2026), if everything goes as planned.

Be aware that there will be heavy equipment and trucks throughout the village and there may be delays and detours caused by the project work.

This project is extensive and we are hopeful that it will allow for completion of 6-7 miles of streets and some work on village owned parking lots.

Please give the crews the courtesy of slowing down and adhering to directions and detours/work related traffic stoppages. Everyone needs to go home at the end of the day.

Thanks,

JPS

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who assisted in providing a proper sendoff for Firefighter Ashley Faubert.
On Thursday, the Little Falls Fire Department and Salisbury Fire Department provided fire/rescue coverage for the Village. On Friday, coverage was handled by the Utica Fire Department and Frankfort Fire Department. MOVAC Ambulance covered EMS both days, as well as the Herkimer Fire Department stood by for any confirmed fires both days.
For parking assistance, thank you to Central Paving and the Herkimer County Sewer District for accommodating overflow during Thursday’s calling hours. On Friday, Turin Management/Re*****on Arms opened their main parking lot for parking and shuttle operations. Thank you as well to HARC and the Central Valley School District for providing buses for this.
I also want to recognize all Village of Ilion departments for their help with traffic during the procession, along with the many police agencies, both local and those who came to Ilion for assisting with traffic control and handling calls.
Thank you to the additional fire departments and EMS agencies that offered to cover or assist in any way. It was appreciated and not unnoticed.
I want to specifically thank both the current and past members of the Ilion Fire Department. From immediately following the accident, to start the process through the conclusion of services and getting everything back in service Saturday morning, a lot of time and effort went into making this come together. We could not have done this without you.
The turnout at the firefighter service at Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home was overwhelming, filling the building with support. Friday’s procession was nothing short of extraordinary, the weather cleared, the sun came out, and the community showed up in incredible numbers along the entire route. The departments that lined up along East Clark Street were amazing. I’m sorry I didn’t get to see and talk with all who came. Turning onto Otsego Street to see firefighters, community members, our ladder truck draped with the flag was unexpected, and the LifeNet flyover, those are moments none of us will ever forget. Thank you to Herkimer County 911 for handling the final call. That made everyone emotional both at the cemetery and all that heard it.
If I missed anyone, it was not intentional. Thank you to everyone who helped and to the community members who came out to pay their respects.
Ashley, rest in peace, Sister. You will not be forgotten.
Thank you,
Andrew Monahan

It is with profound sadness that the Ilion Fire Department announces the passing of Firefighter/Paramedic Ashley Faubert, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident last night.

Firefighter Faubert joined the Ilion Fire Department on October 2, 2023, and in her time with us exemplified dedication, compassion, and professionalism both on and off duty. She was committed to continuous improvement and selflessly served others with pride and integrity. Ashley will be remembered for her smiling personality, which had a way of lifting those around her, even on the toughest days.

During this difficult time, we ask that you keep her family, friends, and all members of the fire service in your thoughts and prayers.

Arrangements will be shared as they become available.

Her service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. We will keep her memory alive in everything we do.

Ilion Firefighters are currently conducting training at Central Station.

Members are rotating through three stations: hose advancement down a hallway, hose advancement up a stairway with forcible entry, and hydrant dressing while tying into the pump.

Training like this keeps our crews sharp and ready to respond when the community calls.

The Ilion Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 110 Elm St in the Village of Ilion. The duty crew was on scene within 2 minutes of dispatch.

Upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible from the attic. Crews quickly placed a 1¾” handline in service and made access to the seat of the fire. The aerial was deployed to assist with extinguishment and overhaul, allowing crews to bring the fire under control efficiently.

Outstanding work by the firefighters of the Ilion Fire Department.

Thank you to our mutual aid partners: Herkimer Fire Department,
Frankfort Fire Department and MOVAC, who came to the scene, and the Mohawk Fire Department, which covered the fire station when the second alarm was transmitted. Also on scene were Ilion Water, Ilion Power and Light and Ilion Dpw.

Great teamwork and cooperation all around
