Today Hilltop Middle School experienced a fire alarm that required us to evacuate the building. The Ilwaco Fire Department quickly responded and completed a full check of the school. There was no fire and everyone is safe.

At this time, it appears the alarm was triggered by an issue in one of our elevators. A technician has been contacted and will be inspecting the elevator.

We want to thank Chris Panta, the Ilwaco Fire Department, and our staff for their quick action and calm response in safely evacuating students. We appreciate the strong teamwork that helps keep our school community safe.

Last Friday, Hilltop Middle School was honored to host an inspiring Womenโ€™s History Month assembly featuring incredible local leaders. Our students had the opportunity to hear from Sue Svendsen, Mayor of Long Beach, Karla Jensen, local business owner, Madeline Matson, Rural Assembly Director, Salina Mecham, CEO of Willapa Behavioral Health, and Gracie Minks, Director of Pacific County Health and Human Services. ๐Ÿ‘

Each speaker shared their leadership journey, the challenges they faced along the way, and advice for our students as they grow into future leaders. Mayor Sue Svendsen shared that she is the first woman to serve as Mayor of Long Beach in the past 100 years, and spoke about the importance of integrity and serving the community you call home. ๐ŸŒŸ

The resounding message from these leaders was powerful.
Be a good person. Lead with integrity. Do not give up when things get hard. Travel and explore the world. Set healthy boundaries. Growth often happens when we step outside our comfort zone and learn from fear.

Our students were reminded that leadership opportunities exist right here in our community and that they have the ability to make a difference wherever their path leads. ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you to these amazing women for sharing their time, wisdom, and leadership with the Hilltop Fishermen.

We had a very determined visitor this morning ๐ŸฆŒ
Our four legged friend attempted to enter Hilltop to attend classes but was stopped at the door due to not being enrolled and, more importantly, not meeting our security requirements. While we appreciate the enthusiasm for learning, all guests must be officially registered and human.

Campus is secure, students are safe, and our furry friend has been redirected back to nature where she belongs. Just another day at Hilltop keeping learning safe and aโ€‹lways a little wildโ€‹!๐Ÿ˜„

We are proud to celebrate National School Counselorโ€™s Week by recognizing our incredible school counselor, Travis Krueger.

His work makes a daily difference in our school community, and we are so grateful for his dedication, compassion, and commitment to student wellbeing.

Thank you, Travis, for all you do for our students and families. We are lucky to have you at Hilltop.

We are so proud of the incredible work happening through our ICU program. During first semester, students completed 436 missing assignments and brought our total down to zero. This reflects hard work, perseverance, and a shared commitment to the belief that every student can finish every assignment with the right support. Thank you to our students and staff for staying focused and not giving up. This is what growth and teamwork look like. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š

Mark your calendars if you have a student attending the after school program.

Just a reminder that all After School Program sites will be closed on February 12th.

This is due to staff being at a required, state-wide professional development program put on by the 21st CCLC office with OSPI. Please contact your child's school with their alternate after school plan. We appreciate you!

Last Friday night's Mariachi concert was truly special. Our students sang from their souls, filling the room with joy, pride, and powerful voices. Smiles were everywhere as they honored Hispanic culture through music, tradition, and heartfelt performance. We are so proud of their passion, dedication, and the way they brought our community together through song. ๐ŸŽถโค๏ธ

What a fantastic night at our 6th Grade Game Night. ๐ŸŽ‰

Students enjoyed an ice cream social, a silent disco, corn hole, and plenty of games with friends. The event was very well attended and we saw some truly excellent behavior throughout the evening.

So much laughter, energy, and joy. Thank you to our staff and families for helping make this such a fun and positive night for our newest Hilltop students. ๐Ÿ’™
