Supporters of Ruth Hughes District Library

Supporters of Ruth Hughes District Library An organization dedicated to the passing of the 2018 Ruth Hughes District Memorial Library millage for Imlay City, Michigan and surrounding communities.

Recognizing the true need for our community library, we have formed a group to help inform voters about the benefits of the continued funding of the Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library. We encourage you to support and vote for the continuation of the current tax levy. Since 1990, the library has existed as a stable and positive community resource for our citizens. Over the years the library has

grown technologically, currently offering free public Wi-Fi access and a computer lab. In the works is the provision of digital E-Books and audio books through the Overdrive system. Some of the many services offered include business resources, educational programs, a summer reading club, quiet study rooms and copy and fax machine services. In these tough economic times, we understand that voters are weary of increasing taxes. It is important for you to know that this millage renewal is NOT a new tax; it is the continuation of the current funding for the library's operations. We believe the library greatly benefits our community, and we encourage you to support the continuation of the current millage.

Need to fax something? You can do it at the library! You can also make photocopies, scan and email documents or photos, and use the wi-fi!

Got a question? Ask the librarians. Want something new to read, but don't know what to try? Ask them that too! They have lots of specialized resources at the ready, including NoveList, a great database for people looking for read-alikes.

The library is a great value! The cost of 1 mill for a home with a market value of $100,000 and a taxable value of $50,000 is $50 a year, about $4.17 a month. For that, about the cost of two hardcover novels, you can instead get access to thousands of books, DVDs, video games, magazines, newspapers, databases, and even a circulating jigsaw puzzle collection. Additionally, you can attend computer classes and children's events, book the free community space and study rooms, use the wi-fi, and lots more.

Public libraries have something for every chapter of your life! At the Ruth Hughes Library on any given day, you can find mothers and toddlers at storytime; tattooed young men checking out video games; grandmothers learning photo editing in the computer lab; retirees checking their investments; families taking out a jigsaw puzzle to put together over a rainy weekend; crafters working on projects together at the Sit & Knit group, and farmers in from a day in the fields getting a movie to unwind with. If you haven't been there lately, stop in and see what it has for you!
