Due to dangerously cold temperatures, warming centers will be open to provide a safe, heated place for residents in need.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY

From the Office of the Mayor and Chief of Police

In preparation for the approaching extreme cold weather all residents are urged to take necessary precautions and prepare for potential impacts. Citizens are encouraged to prepare by stocking up on food, water, medications, flashlights, and other essential supplies. Ensure you have enough resources to last several days in case of power outages or disruptions.

The Town of Independence Police will provide a warming shelter at 580 W 5th St, Independence to safeguard the lives of vulnerable individuals by providing a temporary shelter during this extreme cold weather event. This shelter will be available starting 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25th.

This shelter will provide very basic amenities -– it will be warm and dry. Please bring your own food, medicine, pillows, blankets, etc.

Stay informed by monitoring local news, and remain vigilant until this winter event has passed.
