🚑❤️ CPR & AED Awareness Week | June 1–7 ❤️🚑

Did you know that since 1999, Independence Fire District personnel have trained more than 8,000 community members in CPR?

Knowing CPR can make the difference between life and death during a cardiac emergency. That's why we're committed to making this life saving skill accessible to everyone in our community.

In 2023, IFD partnered with TAKE10 Cincinnati, powered by UC Health. A fast, hands-on, non-certified program designed to teach the basics of CPR in just a few minutes. It's an easy way to learn the skills that could help save a family member, friend, coworker, or neighbor.

Today, IFD has more than 10 certified CPR instructors ready to help educate our community, with even more instructors currently in training.

Each year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals in the United States. Most occur in homes or public settings where immediate medical help is unavailable.

Yet only about 40% of cardiac arrest victims receive bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before emergency medical services arrive. Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) is even lower, hovering just over 10%.

In an emergency, every second counts. During cardiac arrest — when the heart stops beating or beats too ineffectively to circulate blood to the brain and other vital organs — a victim’s chance of survival decreases by 10% for every minute without immediate CPR or defibrillation.

That’s why National CPR and AED Awareness Week (June 1–7) is a critical reminder: learning these lifesaving skills empowers anyone — at any age — to be the difference between life and death.

🚨 NOW HIRING: SEASONAL HYDRANT TECHNICIAN 🚨

The Independence Fire District is accepting applications for a Seasonal Hydrant Technician position for the 2026 season.

This position offers approximately 40 hours per week for up to 14 weeks and provides an opportunity to work outdoors while helping maintain and test the fire hydrants that protect our community.

Responsibilities include:
- Hydrant inspections
- Minor maintenance, painting, and greasing
- Hydrant flushing and flow testing
- Record keeping and computer data entry
