What a night to be a Blue Devil! Our Blue Devil BBQ was a HUGE success! A big thank you to our amazing PTO for all of the hard work that went into making it such a fun evening for our families!

We also loved seeing so many of our IMS teams at Youth Night, cheering on IHS Football! 🏈💙 And the best part? A BLUE DEVIL WIN! 🙌

Great food, great school spirit, and a great night for Independence! 💙💛

Since the heat advisory will be lifted this evening, all Independence Local Schools will be open tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, and will operate on their normal schedules. Thank you!

IPS and IMS Closed Wednesday, September 2 Due to Heat

Due to forecasted high temperatures and heat index, Independence Primary School and Independence Middle School will be closed Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Neither IPS nor IMS has air conditioning, and anticipated conditions inside the buildings have led the district to make this decision for the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Independence High School will remain open and operate on its normal schedule because the building is air-conditioned.

The district appreciates families’ understanding and encourages everyone to stay safe and cool.

Another example of our schools and city working together! We have never seen this many IMS students riding bikes to school, which is great...but we didn't have a bike rack. One call to the city for help, and we had one delivered by the afternoon! Thank you, City of Independence!

DAY 1 at IMS!

And just like that… we’re BACK! 🙌

What an AMAZING first day at Independence Middle School! From seeing friends again, meeting new teachers, finding classrooms, opening lockers, and settling into new routines—our building was full of smiles, energy, and excitement today!

We could not have asked for a better start to the 2026–2027 school year. Our students absolutely rocked Day 1, and our staff brought the energy, patience, and positivity that make IMS such a special place. 💙

There is something pretty great about having everyone back under one roof.

Day 1 = SUCCESS!
Here’s to a year of Learning. Leading. Growing. and proving every day that we really are BETTER TOGETHER! 💙💛
