Independence Area Community Chest The Independence Area Community Chest is an organization that will raise money each year to support Our 2026 Fundraising Goal is $130,000.

The annual campaign has a goal of securing pledges from the community through workplace campaigns and individual contributions that will benefit programs in the Community Chest’s impact areas of education, income, health, and rebuilding lives. Qualifying non-profit agencies can serve one of the four counties: Montgomery, Elk, Chautauqua, or Wilson County. Applications are due Monday June 9th, 2025. Independence Area Community Chest’s Board of Directors were happy to help fund Kids Crew USD 446, “Shop with a First Responder” program this year from our Special Projects Fund. During the “Shop with a First Responder” event, 150 eligible students will have the opportunity to shop and purchase gifts for themselves and their loved ones. This event fosters positive interactions with law enforcement, military personnel, EMTs, and other first responders.

The Independence Area Community Chest Board of Directors has announced they are accepting applications for the 2025 campaign year. Agency presentations will be scheduled for one full day with each participating agency giving a 15-minute presentation to the Community Chest Board of Directors; presentations are scheduled for Friday June 28th in the conference room at the back of Ane Mae’s.

Any agency interested in applying please submit email to [email protected] or call 620-330-7167 to request an application packet. Applications are due by Monday June 17th, 2024.

The Independence Area Community Chest currently supports the following agencies in Independence and the four counties of Montgomery, Wilson, Elk and Chautauqua: AWOL Humane Society, Caney Valley Agape Network, Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation, Community Access Center, Community Mission for Improved Housing, LLC, F.A.S.T., Girl Scouts Kansas Heartland, Inc., Hannah’s House, Historical Museum & Art Center, Home Sweet Home, Homeless Ministry, Imagination Library, Independence Food Basket, Independence Lions Club, Independence Science & Technology Center, Kansas Legal Services, Labette Health Foundation, Midwest Pregnancy Center, Momentum, RSVP, Safehouse Crisis Center, The Salvation Army, The Tree House Early Learning Education Foundation, and Uppercut Boxing.

As Giving Tuesday approaches please consider making a donation to Independence Area Community Chest. Independence Area Community Chest supports 23 local non profit organizations, who all provide a valuable service to our local community. Our 2024 campaign goal is $115,000, which is used to provide the support to the 23 organizations. Text or message for an appointment if you like, or walk in. 1-3 PM. 1st Wednesday of the month is Workshop Wednesday with special resources for your family grouped together for easy access to multiple services.
