The City of Independence Kansas is monitoring several opportunities for thunderstorms over the next few days.

🌩️ Tonight: Thunderstorms are possible after 10:00 PM and through the overnight hours. A few storms could become strong, producing small hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

🌩️ Saturday: Additional thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon and evening, with the potential for a few strong to marginally severe storms.

β˜€οΈ Sunday: Looking much better! Current forecasts indicate dry conditions throughout the day.

🌩️ Monday Evening: Thunderstorm chances return to the area.

Scattered thunderstorms are moving through the area this evening and will continue at times overnight. While these storms are not expected to become severe, we still encourage everyone to stay weather aware. The severe weather threat is low, but not zero.

Storm chances will continue through the weekend, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Some storms could become stronger and may produce:
🌧️ Brief heavy rainfall
⚑ Frequent lightning
πŸ’¨ Gusty winds

An isolated severe storm or even a brief funnel cloud cannot be completely ruled out.

The new Engine 3 has officially arrived! While it will be another month or so before it enters service and begins responding to calls, we are proud to welcome it home. This beautiful new apparatus will serve the citizens of our community for many years to come.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our City Administration Team, City Commission, and Finance Director for their support and commitment in making this possible. Their dedication to investing in public safety and the future of our community is truly valued

A cold front is slowly moving across Kansas, and a line of thunderstorms is moving toward Montgomery County.

These storms are currently producing:

🧊 Hail up to 1 inch in diameter

A cold front is slowly moving across Kansas and is producing supercell thunderstorms in Central Kansas this evening. These storms are expected to form into a line and gradually move south across the state overnight.

The primary threats with these storms include:

🧊 Large hail
🌧️ Heavy rainfall
πŸŒͺ️ A tornado cannot be ruled out

Current timing places these storms in our area after midnight and into the early morning hours on Tuesday.

A significant severe weather event is possible this afternoon through the overnight hours.

A cold front moving through Kansas is expected to trigger supercell thunderstorms across Central Kansas this afternoon. As storms develop and move east, the National Weather Service expects them to form into a line of storms later tonight, increasing the threat for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

⏰ Most likely timing: 10:00 PM – 3:00 AM
πŸŒ… Storms expected to end by approximately 4:00 AM

At 0152 hours your Independence Fire Fighters were dispatched to 604 1/2 N. 17th for a reported residential structure fire. Upon arrival fire personnel found a single story residence with heavy smoke and fire showing. An aggressive interior attack was performed and the fire was quickly under control. Search of the residence found no one inside, and the fire is currently under investigation by Independence Fire/EMS and the Independence Police Department.
