Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and loved ones of Martinsville City Sheriff Steve Draper.

Sheriff Draper began his law enforcement career in 1973 and was elected Sheriff in 1993. Throughout his decades of dedicated service, he made a lasting impact on his community and on law enforcement across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

His commitment to serving others and his many years of dedicated service will not be forgotten. Sheriff Draper will be greatly missed.

Our deepest condolences go out to all who knew and loved him during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Sheriff Draper.

Grayson County Schools’ 2026–27 school year begins August 12. Please allow extra travel time, slow down in school zones, and stay alert for school buses.
🛑 Never pass a stopped school bus when its flashing red lights are activated. Expect children to be crossing the road and watch carefully for students near bus stops.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is currently attempting to locate Julian Pierce, 61 years old, who was reported missing today.

Julian was last seen in the Fries/Ivanhoe area last night driving a 2011 maroon Ford Escape.

• 5'9"
• 200 lbs.
• Blue eyes
• Gray hair

It is with great sadness that we must announce the cancellation of our 2026 National Night Out event, which was scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, in Independence.

The Virginia Primary Elections will be held that day at Grayson County High School. In order to avoid any conflicts with the Board of Elections and to ensure a smooth voting process, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's event.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone next year for an even bigger and better National Night Out!

On 7/13/26 the Grayson County Sheriff's Office took a report of a Green 2026 Kawasaki KLX300 motorcycle stolen from Elliott Pl in Independence. Please contact GCSO at 276-773-3241if you have information where this motorcycle is located.
