This is what the new “resistance” looks like! Well done La Pine. May we all be so brave to acknowledge two things: all money ain’t good money (one of my grandpa’s lessons) and just because something is permissible doesn’t mean it’s beneficial (the apostle Paul). The last one is so important Paul says it twice in two different signatures.

The La Pine City Council voted unanimously to stop moving forward with a proposed data center after strong opposition from residents. Community members packed the meeting, raising concerns about water, energy use, noise and economic benefits.

Instead of continuing to blame laziness on employees, let’s start looking at the lack of regard from employers. There are too many people in this state getting paid to stay in poverty.

Oregon’s public universities and Amazon and its affiliates were also among those most listed as employers on SNAP income verification forms.

Close to 75% of Lake Tahoe will lose their electricity provider by May 2027 to redirect power from residents to fulfill the needs of data centers.

This is a dangerous trend. The love of money is still the root of all evil no matter how many “jobs” it will provide in comparison to how many lives it will destroy.
