This Memorial Day, Pleasantview Fire Department pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage and selflessness protect the freedoms we cherish every single day.

A Quick Safety Reminder for the Holiday:

Grilling: Keep grills at least 10 feet away from siding, deck railings, and out from under eaves.

Water Safety: Keep a close eye on children near pools or open water, and always wear life jackets when boating.

Driving: Stay alert and drive safely on the roads today.

Last Saturday, Pleasantview Fire Protection District, Mabas 10 and regional emergency responders met in Lyons for a specialized Hazardous Materials (HazMat) training drill.

Saturdays focus was responding to potential ammonia emergencies. Anhydrous ammonia is commonly used in commercial refrigeration and industrial applications, and incidents involving it require a highly technical, coordinated response.

Drills like this allow our firefighters and HazMat technicians to practice:
✅ Proper deployment of chemical protective suits and monitoring equipment.
✅ Advanced containment, leak control, and mitigation strategies.
✅ Seamless communication and incident command with our neighboring departments.

Garreth Thornley is a dedicated firefighter/paramedic who has spent over two decades serving communities with unwavering commitment and professionalism. Garreth spent a couple years working at Pleasantview as a hard working paramedic. Since 2019, he has been a valued member working within the Addison Fire Protection District, where he has consistently demonstrated compassion, skill, and a deep sense of duty to those he serves.

Last night’s Board of Trustees meeting was a proud one for our department as we celebrated growth, leadership, and new beginnings. Please join us in congratulating several of our members on their recent milestones!

A huge congratulations to Evan Akers on his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant! Lt. Akers has consistently demonstrated dedication to our community and leadership within the firehouse. We are excited to see him take on this new chapter of responsibility.

We are also thrilled to officially welcome Nick Swalec and Scott Von Drasek, who were sworn in as our newest firefighters. These individuals have worked hard to earn their badges, and we look forward to the great work they’ll do serving the residents of Pleasantview.
