August 19 – September 7

The Indian Shores Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Florida for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

During this enforcement period, officers will have a heightened focus on impaired driving to help keep Indian Shores and Redington Shores safe.

🍻 If you drink, plan your ride!
✅ Designate a sober driver
✅ Use a rideshare or taxi
✅ Stay overnight
✅ Never let an impaired person drive
✅ Always buckle up

Drive sober. Make the right choice. Get home safely.

PRESS RELEASE :
Redington Shores

Beach goers take swift action to assist with medical event.

A 51-year-old male from Pinellas Park, Florida , was found in distress in the Gulf of America, early Saturday afternoon.

The man, visiting the area, was floating in the water and pulled out by beachgoers working hard to revive the distressed man. People in the area assisted in CPR and called 911 for assistance.

Indian Shores Police Department responded with an AED. An off-duty nurse and citizens continued CPR until Fire/EMS arrived and took over. The man, remaining unconscious, was transported to a local hospital, where he remains at the time of this report.

🎒✏️ BACK TO SCHOOL = BACK TO SAFETY 🚸

Summer is winding down, which means school buses, student pedestrians, bicyclists, and extra traffic are returning to our roadways.

The Indian Shores Police Department reminds everyone to slow down and stay alert, especially during morning and afternoon school travel times.

A few simple reminders can save a life:

🚍 Stop for school buses displaying red flashing lights and an extended stop arm.
🚸 Slow down in school zones and obey posted speed limits.
📱 Put the phone down. Distracted driving puts children at risk.
🚶 Watch carefully for children crossing streets, even where there isn’t a crosswalk.
🚴 Give bicyclists plenty of room and expect the unexpected.
⏰ Leave a few minutes early. Rushing leads to poor decisions behind the wheel.

Every child deserves to arrive at school and return home safely. Let’s all do our part to make this school year a safe one.

Slow down. Stay alert. Drive like every child is your own. 💙

School zones and bus stops are among the highest-risk locations for children at the start of the school year, and transportation safety agencies consistently emphasize slower speeds, eliminating distractions, and obeying school bus stop laws. 🚔

Indian Shores Police Department Nominated for Mother’s Against Drunk Driving Awards (MADD)

Chief Lee Ann Holroyd, Sergeant Jason Hicks, Officer Cornelius Hill and Officer Adam Masle attended the MADD awards event and ceremony in Ft Myers last week.

“The agency and individual officers have been recognized for more than five years, and I could not be prouder,” said Chief Holroyd.
Impaired driving is one of the most concerning safety issues for Indian Shores and Redington Shores. Training, support, driver education and communication is the best way to combat the problem.

The officers in attendance received training during the two-day event as well. The training, designed to enhance law enforcement skills in detection, testing, prosecution and officer safety, was invaluable.

Indian Shores Police Department Partners with FDOT to Enhance Traffic Safety Through ELEE Program

Indian Shores, Fla. – The Indian Shores Police Department is proud to announce its partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Seven through the Enhanced Law Enforcement Engagement (ELEE) Program. This initiative provides additional resources to support targeted traffic enforcement and public education efforts on state roadways with the goal of reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities.

Through the ELEE Program, Indian Shores Police officers will focus on the traffic behaviors most commonly associated with serious and fatal crashes, including speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, intersection violations, work zone safety, lane departures, and compliance with Florida's Move Over Law.

"Public safety is at the heart of everything we do," said Chief Lee Ann Holroyd. "This partnership with FDOT allows us to dedicate additional resources to traffic safety while educating motorists about the importance of making responsible choices behind the wheel. Our goal is not simply enforcement, it is preventing crashes, protecting lives, and ensuring everyone arrives home safely."

In addition to high-visibility enforcement, officers will engage with the community by promoting safe driving habits and raising awareness about the factors that contribute to preventable traffic crashes. The department believes education and enforcement work together to create safer roadways for residents, visitors, pedestrians, cyclists, and first responders.

The Indian Shores Police Department encourages all motorists to obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions while driving, never drive impaired, and remain alert when approaching emergency vehicles and work zones.

The success of the ELEE Program will be measured not by the number of citations issued, but by safer roadways, fewer crashes, and lives protected.

The Indian Shores Police Department appreciates the continued support of the community and looks forward to working alongside FDOT District Seven to enhance traffic safety throughout Indian Shores and Redington Shores.

We had some special visitors at the Indian Shores Police Department today!

Thanks to the generosity of Walmart and The Bridegan Foundation, our department received a Bexley Box—filled with diapers, wipes, snacks, toys, sippy cups, and other comfort items to help children experiencing a crisis or unexpected situation.

Created in honor of Bexley Bridegan's story, these boxes give our officers the resources to provide comfort and reassurance during some of life's most difficult moments.

A heartfelt thank you to Walmart and The Bridegan Foundation for helping us care for the youngest members of our community with compassion when they need it most. 💙

While visiting, Nola got a little training in shield use in crowds! Nola asked, “Does my shield training get me out of laundry?”😆🤣🇺🇸💙
