Beware

Scammers often target disaster survivors to obtain personal information or direct payments. Even during difficult situations, it is important to remember fraud safety tips:

• Some scammers claim to represent FEMA or a local emergency agency and ask for Social Security numbers, bank accounts or payment for assistance.

• Be careful who you share personal information with. Scammers may try to steal your identity.

• Use trusted and licensed businesses to do repair work on your home and property.

• Government staff will always have an official ID and will never ask for money. Do not give money to anyone claiming to work for a government entity.

• Protect yourself: Ask for ID, verify credentials and research charities. Don’t share personal or financial information at the door.

Residents should report scams to local law enforcement and the Federal Trade Commission (reportfraud.ftc.gov). Get more preparedness tips at in.gov/dhs/get-prepared/general-safety/scams.

Back to School Safety

Greensburg, PA - In our ongoing effort to assist school administrators with providing a safe learning environment, members of the Pennsylvania State Police are prioritizing school and school bus safety throughout the Commonwealth.

During the upcoming school year, members of Troop A will be conducting numerous domestic security checks of public and private schools throughout the four-county Troop A region, which includes Cambria, Indiana, Somerset, and Westmoreland counties. Such checks are conducted each shift and may include walk-throughs of school buildings and lunch visits with students.

Troopers will also be monitoring roadways as school buses pick up and drop off students. Patrol Unit members will specifically be monitoring morning and afternoon school bus routes for violations of Title 75, Section 3345, Meeting or Overtaking School Bus. Upon conviction, the penalties for a violation of this section include a $250.00 fine.

The safety of our students and schools is a community effort and we would like to wish everyone a safe and successful school year.

Please watch out for children

It's that time again: Back-to-school is under way! 🚌🚸

Let's keep students safe as they get to and from school each day.

- Stop for buses with stop arms extended and flashing red lights 🛑
- Remind kids to wait for buses back from the curb ➡️
- Drivers: Be alert for kids on and near the road 👀
- Teach kids not to cross streets behind a school bus 🚫
- Remind kids about looking both ways before walking on the road 🙂‍↔️

Troopers Seeking to Identify Suspect in Attempted Burglaries, Theft from Motor Vehicles

Center Township, PA – Troopers are seeking to identify the suspect involved in a series of attempted residential burglaries and attempted theft from motor vehicles in Indiana County.

On July 13, 2026 at approximately 5:30 a.m., an unknown teenage male attempted to enter several residences along Jefferson Avenue in Center Township, but was unsuccessful. The suspect was also reported to have attempted to enter several parked, unattended vehicles in the same general area.

No items were reported stolen in any of these attempts.

The suspect is described as a white, non-Hispanic male, approximately 14-18 years of age. He was also observed wearing a dark-colored, hooded jacket.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Tpr. Bastian at Troop A, Indiana at 724-357-1960.
