Diego Morales is secretary of state, the highest office on the statewide ballot this fall. But fellow Republican officials are trying to dump him at the Indiana GOP convention in June. And now there's a new revelation: Morales extended a no-bid contract with a company whose CEO has contributed $55,000 to his campaign — and the company is being paid from a fund intended to compensate crime victims. Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith* is stoking fears of a takeover by Muslims, who account for less than 1% of the state's population.

A $90,000 vendor payment from a victim restitution account and broad salary increases were approved by Secretary of State Diego Morales.

Happy 4th Birthday, ReCenter Indiana! 🎉
Today, we are celebrating a meaningful milestone: ReCenter Indiana is turning 4 years old.
Over the past four years, this community’s passion, dedication and shared commitment to restoring balance and civic health in Indiana have fueled our growth. Together, we are proving that Hoosiers are ready for a more centered, collaborative future.
As we mark this anniversary, we are also celebrating major milestones that are shaping our next chapter:
✅ We hired Jocelyn Vare, our first Executive Director, expanding our capacity and impact across the state.
✅ We launched a groundbreaking non-voter survey to better understand young voter apathy and the barriers that keep young Hoosiers from participating in elections.
✅ We hosted redistricting listening sessions to lift up Hoosier voices and advocate for fair, competitive districts.
And we are just getting started.
Looking ahead, we will continue our vital work to educate and engage young adults, strengthen civic participation and push back against efforts that discourage voter involvement.

We are also excited to host our first major event: Advancing the Center: An Evening with Chuck Todd on August 13. At this inaugural event, we will launch a powerful new initiative to support the next cycle of civic fellowship and hands-on community engagement for young adults.

Whether you have been with us since day one or just joined the movement, you are part of the ReCenter Indiana story.

Thank you for investing your time, energy and voice in building a better Indiana.
Here’s to four years of impact — and many more to come! 💜

Some 14 voters in Indiana’s May 5 primary may be subpoenaed to testify under oath. That’s for a recount in the Lafayette area, where state Sen. Spencer Deery beat Paula Copenhaver by just two votes. She claims those 14 broke state law by voting in the primary of a party they don’t actually support. One of them, a retired history teacher, said: "I've never heard (of) a recount where they are going after the actual voters." In Fort Wayne,* state Sen. Liz Brown beat Darren Vogt by just 14 votes. He also wants a recount.

There's a showdown over who actually won the primary election in Indiana Senate District 23.

Did you sit out Indiana’s May 5 primary? Because you thought your vote wouldn’t make a difference? With nearly all votes counted,* incumbent state Sen. Spencer Deery in the Lafayette area has just a 4-vote lead over his challenger. In the Fort Wayne area, incumbent state Sen. Liz Brown is only 15 votes ahead. TV viewers were deluged with attack ads. How much did interest groups spend on those ads to influence Hoosiers’ votes -- just in state Senate races? A jaw-dropping 5,000% more than in the 2024 primary.

Was it the mere fact of President Donald Trump's endorsement, or the tens of millions in ad spending that boosted challengers over Indiana Senate incumbents?

Indiana’s May 5 primary is being fueled almost solely by Trump’s need for revenge," an Indiana-based writer for Politico* reports. Challengers are branding fellow conservatives in their own party as "liberal." What those incumbent state lawmakers did was heed their constituents and reject the president's demand to redraw Indiana congressional districts. U.S. Sen. Jim Banks is bankrolling many of the attack ads, though they don't mention his name.

U.S. Sen. Jim Banks has his fingerprints all over the campaign to oust several Indiana state senators in the Republican primary, although voters might have a hard time knowing it.

A federal appeals court has upheld a 2025 state law barring student IDs as voter identification, but only because early voting has already started in the May 5 primary. The Indiana Citizen reports that "the federal appellate court did not address the constitutional issues or determine whether SEA 10 created a heavier burden on students than on all other voters." Meanwhile, the Indianapolis public editor suggests the state could help boost Indiana's notoriously poor election turnout by producing a voter guide,* as some other states do.

By Marilyn Odendahl The Indiana Citizen April 21, 2026 Saying voting rules cannot be altered this close to the election date, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stayed a district court’s preliminary injunction issued last week, so, once again, students at Indiana’s public universities can no ...

As early voting continues in Indiana's May 5 primary election, two key court rulings. One of them, in the Terre Haute area, leaves two women named Wilson* on the Republican primary ballot. Both are challenging state Sen. Greg Goode, who snubbed President Trump's call for off-cycle redistricting. And a federal judge has blocked a new state law barring student IDs as a valid form of voter identification. He determined that "no evidence has been presented showing that student IDs have been used to commit voter fraud or any other kind of voting-related misconduct."

By Marilyn Odendahl The Indiana Citizen April 15, 2026 Relying on the precedent created in the 2008 ruling that upheld Indiana’s voter ID law, a federal judge has blocked the state’s ban on the use of student ID cards at the polls. Senior Judge Richard Young of the Southern Indiana District Cour...

Indiana’s May 5 primary is a big deal. Early voting has already begun, but a prominent ally of Gov. Braun is still trying to push a woman named Wilson* off the ballot. Why? Voters might mistake her for another woman named Wilson. Both are running against a state senator who listened to his constituents rather than President Trump, then rejected Trump’s demand for off-cycle congressional redistricting. Statewide, millions of dollars are surging into the state to topple Republican incumbents who defied Trump and Braun.

There has been unprecedented number of statewide Republican leaders — including Gov. Mike Braun — getting involved in taking down incumbents.
