Kinda chic to include women in HIV prevention 😌✨

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued new guidance around HIV testing and PrEP for OB-GYNs and other reproductive healthcare providers, advising them to “proactively initiate discussions” about HIV testing and prevention with their patients and prescribe preventive medications to any patient who requests it. This is an update from previous guidance which focused on having these conversations with patients identified as having high risk factors for HIV. Read more: https://bit.ly/46b1K0N

Although OB-GYNs see people of all genders, their primary demographic is women, uniquely positioning them to provide increased guidance around HIV testing and prevention to a group that is often left out of that conversation. In 2024, about 20% of new HIV diagnosis were for women. Women were also found to have:
📍 Lower levels of linkage to HIV care
📍 Lower levels of viral suppression of HIV
📍 Lower levels of receiving HIV medical care
📍 Lower levels of PrEP use

This data highlights the room for improvement in HIV prevention, testing, and care for women. ACOG's updated guidance is a positive step forward.

A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon today through Thursday evening. Afternoon heat indices will be in the 100s over central Indiana with highs in the 90s. The most dangerously hot days are expected to be Wednesday and Thursday with Heat Indices from 105 to 109 degrees. Limit outdoor activities, wear lightweight, loose fit clothing and drink plenty of fluids.
