Butler University Police Department

Butler University Police Department BUPD is dedicated to keeping the Butler University Campus and surrounding neighborhood safe. They are graduates of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Butler University places a high priority on keeping its campus safe for students, employees and visitors. The university police department offers educational and awareness programs on crime prevention and emergency response for students and staff. We also continually make safety enhancements to campus grounds and develop precautionary measures that touch every aspect of campus life. Our police pat

rol supervisors and police officers are appointed under the statutes of the State of Indiana with full police power and are available 24 hours a day throughout the year. The security officers assist sworn officers in patrolling the campus on foot, locking and unlocking buildings, and conducting security and safety surveys of the physical campus.

Officer Weilhamer has recently returned from Washington, D.C., where she participated in Police Week. During her time there, she served as a mentor to children who have lost a police officer parent in the line of duty. This role is especially meaningful to her, as she is also a survivor—her father, a police officer, was killed in the line of duty. Through her work, Officer Weilhamer is able to support others coping with the same unimaginable loss she has personally experienced.

BUPD proudly celebrated another family milestone at commencement. Assistant Chief Tony Rivera’s daughter, Ally, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Media and Entertainment. In a special moment, Assistant Chief Rivera and Ally’s stepfather, Randy Cole—who also works at Butler University—had the honor of presenting her diploma. The smiles on their faces said it all, reflecting just how proud they are of her accomplishment. Congratulations, Ally! Well done! 🎓👏

BUPD Assistant Chief Tony Rivera arrived at work this morning only to learn that his office had been breached. Upon further inspection, investigators discovered numerous decorations confirming the unthinkable — he is officially 50 years old, over the hill, and has been formally welcomed into old age.
BUPD has opened a full investigation into this outrageous act. However, due to lack of witnesses, motives, and cooperation (and because it’s hilarious), we believe this case will remain permanently unsolved. 😂
Happy 50th Birthday, Assistant Chief Rivera! 🎉🎂👴

Butler University student Alli Plush and her aunt, Jodi, stopped by the BUPD with a box of treats from the Kyle Plush Answer the Call Foundation. Tragically, in Ohio in 2018, Alli’s brother, Kyle Plush, lost his life in a vehicle accident after first responders were unable to locate his vehicle, despite Kyle calling 9‑1‑1 twice.
The Kyle Plush Answer the Call Foundation was established to promote best practices within the 9‑1‑1 industry to help prevent similar tragedies. Along with the treats, each of our dispatchers received a thoughtful coaster in memory of Kyle.
