Update 8/7: You can drive on the main entrance driveway! :)

Update 8/4: the entrance driveway is still closed! The plumber found the leak and still need more repairs to be done before they can finish the road for drivers. Thanks for your patience!

The entrance driveway of the Ornithology Center is currently closed for construction. A plumber is on-site today to repair a leaking pipe beneath our main entrance road. Visitors are encouraged to park near the OC at the 71st gate, along the fitness trail, or at Lilly Lake and walk to the center if possible.

For those needing to drive in, access is still available via the south exit driveway (which usually operates as a one-way). This allows entry to the ADA parking spaces. Please exercise caution when driving through the one-way driveway, as it is narrow and has blind corners. Thank you for your understanding.

Sneak Peak! ✨🦁🦅🦡🐍 The Hideaway is looking very magical! There are still a few spots left in our Harry Potter Family Night this weekend at the Hideaway, and even though it might rain, we have SO MANY indoor areas to explore and activities to do. We love decorating for this event every year and just can’t stop adding more new elements and magical activities! We may even be adding an Adult Only Night next Friday August 7th, so keep an eye out! Check out the progress made around the pond at the Ornithology Center! This trail was made possible by the hard work of Cummins Inc volunteers and their generous support. We are so excited with the improvement to this trail. The pond will be filled within the next several weeks, pending a visit from a plumber. We are so looking forward to seeing this reflection pond restoration complete!

That's a wrap on the 2026 Summer Day Camp season here at the Ornithology Center! We are so thankful for our day camp counselors, Ella, John & Rachel for their hard work this summer keeping our campers safe & connecting with nature! Here are just a few highlight photos from the summer.

We are so excited to host the December 11-13th class of the Midwest Wildlife Tracking Intensive through White Pine Wilderness Academy this fall! Financial aid available! One of the teaching assistants for the course is OC Assistant Manager, Donna, who took this course in 2025-2026.

Join us for a magical night under the stars on the west side of Eagle Creek Park! The Hideaway Retreat Center will be decorated inside and out to immerse you in the world of Harry Potter, including the outdoor area, which will be decorated like the Quidditch World Cup! We will have activities throughout the afternoon to learn about fantastic beasts and Hogwarts subjects including potions, herbology, divination, archery, care of magical creatures, and more (see schedule at link below). Costumes expected!

*Due to predicted rain, we have decided to cancel the camping/overnight option, but this 1pm-10pm Saturday event is still on!

For all ages! Come with your nerd "family" and enjoy this merging of magical and outdoor adventure experiences! (Note: you do not have to bring children to attend.)

Price: $50/adult, $25/child (ages 4+) for food and activities 1pm-10pm.
Additional overnight fee: $75/tent site - canceled
