Facebook! It’s been a minute… with that being said, help me send a huge CONGRATS to the newest addition into the Indiana Army National Guard, Angel Cortez!

Angel has officially enlisted into the Indiana Army National Guard as a 91B (Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic), taking the first step toward a strong future both in and out of uniform.

By joining the Guard at 19 years old, Angel is unlocking benefits like the National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG), GI Bill, and Tricare—setting himself up for success while serving his state and country.

His goal? To pursue an aviation tech degree at Vincennes University ✈️—using these benefits to pay for school and build a career in the aviation field without taking on any student debt. Huge W.

Had the pleasure of presenting this award to Roncalli High School along with my Co-Worker 1LT Laky. Here’s why this award is so important:

- The school designates a member trained to support military families
- It provides transition support for students from military families arriving during the middle of the year
- Has counseling or social/emotional resources
- Has military friendly policies around absences, enrollment, and records
- Provides programs that recognize and include military families

At the beginning of the pep rally on Friday of Catholic Schools Week, Sergeant First Class Rios-Garcia and First Lieutenant Ryann Laky, from the Indiana National Guard, presented Roncalli High School and principal Kevin Banich R'09 the official award of 2025 Indiana Purple Star School. This designation honors Roncalli's significant commitment to service members, veterans, students and families connected to our nation’s military.

Congratulations to the newest addition to the Indiana Army National Guard, Justin Orihuela! As a 12N, Justin will be hands-on with powerful heavy equipment, helping to shape the physical foundation of Army missions by building roads, airfields, and other critical infrastructure. This role not only plays a vital part in military readiness but also provides valuable skills that will set Justin up for long-term success — both in and out of uniform.

From mastering state-of-the-art machinery to gaining leadership experience and earning benefits for education and career development, Justin is laying the groundwork for a bright future.

Today was a monumental day for the Indiana Army National Guard. Giselle Lopez Palma has become the first female 19D (Cav Scout) to enlist and pursue a military career. This job can be rigorous but Giselle is prepared to take on any obstacle that may approach her. She is motivated and disciplined. On top of adventure that the job will bring she will be going to UIndy for her undergrad paying some expenses through the GI Bill and GI Bill kicker. Proud of you, Giselle!
