Animals serve important roles in the lives of all Hoosiers. They provide food, income, recreation, companionship and assistance to millions of people everyday. Indiana state lawmakers recognized the value of those relationships in 1889, when they formed the Office of the State Veterinarian and the Livestock Sanitary Commission.
