Members of the 4-H Sewing Club made fabric flowers for Mother’s Day 🌸🧵

This project gave members the chance to practice sewing skills, patience, and creativity as they worked through each step of the process. From picking fabrics to assembling petals, each flower turned out unique and reflected the hard work and personality of the member who created it.

Congratulations to Duncean Floyd! 🍀

Over the past five years, Duncean has been a part of the Sunflower County 4-H Livestock Program, showing cattle and dairy goats while competing at the county, district, and state levels. Through 4-H, he has learned responsibility, discipline, and the value of hard work.

Some of Duncean’s proudest accomplishments include placing in the top 15 in the steer carcass competition, earning first place in dairy goat showmanship, and placing 3rd in his Market Steer class at Dixie National with a homegrown steer.

“My favorite memory is showing at the Dixie National, especially being in the ring with my homegrown steer. Competing at the county, district, and state level and seeing all the hard work come together is something I’ll always remember.”

We have enjoyed watching Duncean grow through his years in 4-H and are excited to see what the future holds for him. We wish him the very best in the years ahead!

Congratulations to Kathryn Chism! 🍀

For the past 10 years, Kathryn has been a dedicated member of the Sunflower County 4-H Livestock Program. Through showing livestock and participating in 4-H activities, she has grown into a strong leader, role model, and encourager to younger exhibitors.

“My experience in 4-H has been one of the most meaningful parts of my life. It has taught me responsibility, hard work, and confidence through caring for and showing my animals. I’ve built friendships, learned valuable life skills, and grown both personally and as a leader.”

One of Kathryn’s favorite 4-H memories was winning Dixie National in 2022, a moment she says made all the early mornings and long days worth it.

We have enjoyed watching Kathryn grow through her years in 4-H and are excited to see what the future holds for her. We wish her the very best in the years ahead!

Today, seniors participating in the Stock Market Game pilot program were recognized for completing the spring semester program and earning their certificates of completion. 📈🍀

Throughout the semester, students explored investing, diversification, market research, and financial decision making while competing in teams and tracking their portfolios.

Congratulations to Team 1: Codey Sligh (Team Leader), Matthew Gary, Carson Miller, Khylon Pearson, and Gavin Roberson.

Congratulations also to Team 2: Fitz Manning (Team Leader), Addisyn Battle, Tristen Bradshaw, and Ben Torres, who placed 41st out of 419 teams in North State competition and 76th out of 911 teams statewide.

This was a fun group to work with, and it was great watching the students grow more confident in their understanding of personal finance and investing throughout the semester.

A few students had already slipped out before we could take the final photo, so we included the original group photo from earlier in the program as well.

This week, Sunflower County 4-H was proud to present 4-H honor cords to graduating seniors Kathryn Chism and Duncean Floyd in recognition of their involvement in our livestock program. 🍀

Through years of caring for and showing livestock, both Kathryn and Duncean have represented Sunflower County 4-H well while developing responsibility, leadership, and a strong work ethic along the way.

We are thankful for the time they have invested in 4-H and wish them the very best in their future endeavors!
