Can you tell who my favorite author is? I've been devouring Sarah J. Maas's novels and currently I'm reading Throne of Glass. I've heard many good things about this series and it may get me out of my reading slump!

"After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her ... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead ... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined."

As I'm writing my reasons for choosing Have We Met? by Camille Baker as this week's book pick, I'm also looking into the opinions of others who have read it so I can give you all a well rounded view. This is the first time I've been genuinely nervous to find spoilers! In this line of work *a lot* of media is spoiled for me. I can't possibly read every single book before looking at reviews to pick it for a book pick, select it for purchase, or schedule it for a book club meeting. Normally that doesn't bother me in the least! This time, I'm on page 185 of 256 (oh no I just peeked at the last page) and I'm terrified I won't get to learn the outcome by reading it myself in the old fashioned way.

That's all to say, I REALLY like this book. Let's gloss past the part where I'm known as a huge horror, scifi/fantasy, and graphic novel fan, because I honestly love a good romance too. Have We Met? does get a little spooky; the main character is thrust into the dating scene by a mysterious app that appears on her phone during a dark and stormy night. Besides that, the story is comfortably realistic. There are a lot more characters that I can identify as people I know than I usually get to see in books, not as many bland archetypes, and the main character is imperfect in a likeable way.

I did promise opinions other than my own - and dodged some spoilers getting them - so here's what I found: most romance fans loved it! Of course, there were some side eyes at the weirdness of the "magical" app and a few awkward phrases that reviewers pointed out. If I'm being realistic, they're right. Fortunately, the huge diversity of backgrounds gave the story dimension and made it much more realistic even with the spooky app, and the casual tone made any awkward vocabulary feel like a stylistic choice. I sincerely hope the author takes some of the side characters and focuses future books on them!

The library community mourns the loss of Charles Ginter, Indianola Public Library Director from 1970-1997.

Under his leadership, the library successfully weathered a major censorship challenge, installed the first computerized library system, and raised funds to build the library at 207 N. B St – just to name a few of his accomplishments.

His whimsical humor, wide-ranging interests, and love for the library made him a favorite to patrons and staff alike.

Charles was truly a treasure to our community, and we will miss him.

Kudos for the Indianola Library staff! They are posting "walking books" around the parameter fo the library and changing them out frequently. I see families making this loup quite frequently on our morning jobs. Clyde, our dog, enjoys the books a lot as long as I read the copy to him.
Thank you for a great night with the Blank Park Zoo education department.
I am contacting organizations about our Child Abduction Prevention program. C.A.P. for short. I did a small course earlier this month and channel 5 came out for a short segment. I very much would like to get the information out there as I am very passionate about keeping our children safe. I would like to chat with you more about this if you're interested. I am including our video here for you to look at. Thank you for your time. Dave Nelson. 515-249-0031

SEEKING HOST FAMILIES FOR HIGH SCHOOL AGED FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS FOR AUGUST 2018 AND JANUARY 2019 I’m spending the day looking for a family to host a 16-year-old boy from China named Xingyang. Can you help me? Xingyang is described as kind, active, sporty, open, outgoing, and polite. Xingyang enjoys playing basketball, riding horses, volleyball, fishing, cooking, playing card games and watching movies. Can anyone help me in my search for a family who can open their heart and home to Xingyang We’re offering a $50.00 referral gift card or donation for the name of any family that will host him. It is through student exchange that we plant seeds of kindness and understanding while building friendships around the world. Message me if you are interested in applying to host Xingyang or if you know of another good family that might enjoy hosting him. Thank you!
