Snacks with Janis: Monkeybread
9/21/2020: It's Janis's favorite kind of craft day: SNACK craft day! Today, she's making individual monkeybread, and it is super-easy and super-tasty. With a few ingredients, a grown-up's help with the oven, and about 15 minutes, you can make your own ooey, gooey, cinnamon-y snack.
What you'll need:
Canned biscuits
Cinnamon and sugar mix
Sweetened condensed milk
Baking cups or non cooking spray
Muffin tin
Knife or scissors
Oven preheated to 375 degrees
Craft: Scented paints
Is it feeling like fall? Do you want to make it smell like fall? Try these home-made SCENTED paints! They're easy to make, with stuff you probably already have at home. Raid your spice cabinet to find things that smell great. Janis used cinnamon, nutmeg, thyme, and some peppermint flavoring that was tucked way back in a corner. You might also try: cloves, rosemary, pumpkin pie spice, apple flavoring, or something else!
You'll just need:
1 c. cold water
1/4 c. flour (maybe up to 1/3 cup, if you need it a little bit thicker)
1-2 T. cornstarch
Food coloring
Your spices and flavorings
Craft: Crescent Roll snacks!
One more "re-run" of crafts before we get into new ones in September. Watch for a craft video on the first Monday of each month, and then a SNACK video on the third Monday of each month. (Snack crafts are Janis's favorites.) In the meantime, give these crescent roll snacks from June another try. They're worth the repeat.
Janis was hungry, so we're making crescent roll pizza rolls and crescent roll pie! So tasty.
Dinos love the storywalk!
Our dinos are still enjoying the storywalk around the Library, and we hope that you are, too! Stories change every week on Wednesday (weather willing), and will continue through the end of September.
Crafts with Janis 7-27-2020: Chocolate chip cookie in a mug!
It's our last new craft video for the summer, and Janis decided to go out with something AWESOME. It's a chocolate-chip cookie in a mug, made in the microwave! It's delicious on its own, OR add some ice cream for a really ridiculous treat.
Ingredients:
• 1 1/2 tablespoons butter (softened)
• 2 tablespoons brown sugar
• 1 large egg yolk (discard the egg white)
• 1 drop (or 1/8 teaspoon) vanilla extract
• 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• pinch of salt (optional)
• 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips
Mix the butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla together in your mug. Add the flour and salt, and mix well. Mix in the chocolate chips.
Microwave for 60-90 seconds. SO TASTY!
