A Great Day of Learning at Rufus Reed Public Library!

Our Rufus Reed Library branch was happy to welcome Kentucky State University today as they hosted their Landscape Scale Restoration Training: Forestry and Agroforestry here in Martin County.

The training covered agroforestry systems, non-timber forest products, high value specialty crops, and business and value-added opportunities in agroforestry. Participants also took part in a plantation site visit, learned about tree planting and monitoring techniques, site preparation, and observed a live drone demonstration highlighting the use of drone technology in forest and agricultural management.

Martin County Public Library joins so many across Appalachia in remembering Dolly Parton and the incredible legacy she leaves behind. 💛

Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, her love for children and reading has found its way into homes right here in Martin County, one little book at a time. 📚🌷🦋

The Imagination Library mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, regardless of their family’s income. This wonderful program is completely FREE, and if your little one isn’t enrolled yet, stop by the library! We’d be happy to help you get them signed up!

Thank you, Dolly, for loving our mountains, our children, and always reminding them to dream big. Your legacy will live on in the little readers you inspired. 💛

The MCLP at the Collier Center have teamed up with the Kentucky Blood Center to host a community blood drive on Monday, June 8th, 2026. They will be stationed in the gym from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm for all who can participate.

Walk-ins are welcome, or you can schedule your appointment today at 800-775-2522. You can also scan the QR code on the flyer to schedule online!

All that participate will receive a free “United We Give” t-shirt and a voucher for a FREE pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream. Give a pint, get a pint!

The Kentucky Blood Center serves over 70 hospitals in the state and provides blood that goes on to save the lives of our friends, family and neighbors. 1 pint of blood takes about 45 minutes of your time to give, but goes on to help up to 3 adults (or 6 children) in need. Please help us keep the blood supply full!
