A Moment in Ingalls History | October 5, 1960
More than 65 years ago, a future President of the United States made his way through the Town of Ingalls.
This photograph captures then-presidential candidate Senator John F. Kennedy traveling through Ingalls on October 5, 1960, during a campaign swing through central Indiana.
That day, Kennedy made stops in Pendleton, Anderson, and Muncie as he campaigned for the presidency. In Muncie, he addressed a large crowd gathered at the Delaware County Courthouse and also made a stop at Muncie Gear Works to speak with local workers.
Just over a month later, on November 8, 1960, Kennedy was elected the 35th President of the United States.
Photos like this are a great reminder that even our small town has had a front-row seat to moments in American history. For residents standing along the streets of Ingalls that October day, it was a chance to see a presidential candidate pass directly through their hometown on his way across Indiana.
