Join the artist Rick Van Gogh for Art in Motion at IPL! Through an engaging demonstration, Rick will introduce participants to the connection between music and visual art. Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Success!

The kick-off of the “Booked on Art” Summer Reading Program was an unforgettable day with more than 110 attendees, enjoying a performance by the LA Music Center’s Boxtales Theatre Company. Through engaging bilingual storytelling and imaginative myths from around the world, Boxtales captivated audiences of all ages, bringing literature and culture to life. Patrons were fully engaged as they participated in the interactive theatrical experience and also enjoyed colorful balloon twisting by Charm and Happy. The exciting afternoon marked a strong start to a summer filled with reading and creativity.

Meet, Alexa! This Year's Summer Reading Program Staff Artist!

Using handcrafted shapes and colorful artistic details, Library Support Clerk, Alexa designed the playful "Booked On Art!" artwork, which will be featured throughout IPL this summer. Alexa's creative vision helps bring this year’s Summer Reading Program to life and we are proud to celebrate her talent. Keep an eye out for her artwork all summer long!

Heroic Tales: Author, CJ Charles Takes Over Crenshaw-Imperial!

CJ Charles swooped back into the Crenshaw-Imperial Branch to unveil her latest bilingual children's masterpiece, My Father is a Superhero/¡Mi papá es un superhéroe! She dazzled the crowd of 18 by reading in both English and Spanish, then whipped out a surprise raffle for a few lucky patrons. Attendees got crafty while fashioning their very own DIY superhero masks!

Public Art in Action!

IPL staff were invited to attend the Inglewood Open Studios (IOS) Global Village Mural Project walkthrough—a vibrant community gathering centered on public art and cultural storytelling. The event featured remarks from Mayor Butts and District 1 Councilwoman Gloria Gray, and we were also joined by Inglewood Arts Commissioners. A special highlight of the walkthrough was recognizing our Library Support Clerk, Jeramiah, who was selected as an artist apprentice supporting mural artist Demi Lauren. We are proud to celebrate his creative growth and community expression through public art.

Throwback to our Book Club Wrap Up!

Library Assistant, Ramara, led this month's book club discussion of Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, which sparked a passionate conversation about culture, loss, and life's challenges. Over 22 people shared their thoughts on this nearly 500-page book, which was a real page turner! Join us on Saturday, 6/27 at 2 PM at the Morningside Park Branch for a special visit from Author Toni Ann Johnson, where we will discuss her book, "But Where's Home?: A Novella and Stories."
