Who Should Attend?

Families planning to register a child for any of our 10 elementary schools are encouraged to attend. Simply choose the date that works best for your family — you may register for your home elementary school at any of the scheduled events.

At the event, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, visit a kindergarten classroom, and complete registration for your incoming Kindergarten or Young 5s student.

Great things are happening at Hicks! Our wonderful PE teacher, Ms. Gabourie, holds karate classes as part of her enrichment time. The kids tested today and moved up the next level. They showed discipline, knowledge and determination. Congrats to all the participants and thanks to Ms. Gabourie and the judges.

Today was an absolute amazing culmination to Black History Month at Hicks. We had a wonderful presentation for the students this morning with student poets, bucket drumming from our second graders to African Folk songs, history lessons and spoken word from our Hicks Hometown Heroes, the Black History Month ABCs from our fifth graders and last, but certainly not least, some life lessons and dance moves from America’s Got Talent and Inkster’s own, the Funkateers. The day ended with a gallery walk so our lower elementary student and the families of our upper elementary student to see each presentations that our 4th and 5th grade students worked so hard on. The students created pop bottle figures, dossiers, tri-fold board and even “baseball” cards to showcase famous African Americans. A very special moment was our 5th grade Honors Choir serenading all of our families as they arrived for the gallery walk. Today is definitely Great Day to be a Hawk! Proud of all of our Hawks!

Today our third graders got to travel to the State Capital in Lansing to learn about state government and history! As an added bonus they got to meet our governor, Gretchen Whitmer aka BIG GRETCH and pose for a pic with her! What a wonderful experience!

Today was our January PBIS celebration. This month it was student vs. staff Minute 2 Win It games. The students loved beating the staff. Everyone had so much fun! We love to celebrate our students who follow the PBIS mantra! Thanks to Mrs. Gabourie, our wonderful gym teacher, for all of her hard work on this event! Thank you also to the PBIS team for their dedication to helping to make PBIS successful at Hicks! Thank you to the staff who were good sports and congrats to the champions: the students!
