It's always an honor and a privilege to perform for the legion's Memorial Day services.

05/25/2026

Here is the itinerary for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th.
8:45- Meet at Midway to load the bus.
9:00- Leave Midway for Gilby.
9:30- Gilby service
10:15- Inkster service
11:30- Forest River service
There will be a Potluck in Forest River following the Forest River service. We will stay for that and head back to Midway afterwards. If you want to meet us in Gilby instead of taking the bus, that is fine. If you would like to take separate transportation from Forest River, that is also fine.

Congratulations to the Midway class of 2026! Our music program wouldn't be what it is today without this outstanding group of students. Although you will all be missed, it's time for you to move onto new chapters in your lives. Just know that the music department will always love you and that you will always be a Monarch/Mustang. Thanks for all of the great memories and best of luck in everything you do!

MIDWAY MUSIC SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Karson has been one of Midway's most talented musicians. Naturally, he quickly excelled at the saxophone when he picked it up in 5th grade. After starting the alto saxophone, Karson switched to playing the tenor saxophone when he was in middle school. Tenor saxophone continues to be Karson's primary instrument. Karson was a founding member of the Midway jazz band and has played in that ensemble for all four years of high school. Every year, he has been the first chair tenor saxophone. Karson also played in the high school band for two years and sang in the choir for two years.
Karson participates in several groups and organizations outside of music including baseball and NHS. He has also become a very skilled welder over the past two years, receiving statewide and national acclaim for his prowess. Being exceptional is the standard for Karson.
About his time in the music program, Karson has said, "My favorite thing about band and jazz band is that it has given me a place to express my love for music and a place to expand my musical skills."
Karson's favorite music memory was attending UND's Band Day, hosted by UND's Pride of the North marching band.
Karson stated, "It was amazing being able to play with that many people."
Next semester, Karson plans to attend Northland CTC for Welding Technology and Marketing and Management. After that, Karson would like to open up his own weld repair shop.
Thanks for everything that you have done for the music program and best of luck at Northland!

MIDWAY MUSIC SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

In 5th grade, Jersey started to learn how to play the clarinet. Since then, she has become one of Midway's most decorated music students. Jersey made her first appearance with the high school band in 8th grade, playing with them for that year's winter concert. In high school, Jersey has played in the band for four years. She is also a founding member of the Midway jazz band. Although she played the tenor saxophone for one semester, Jersey has primarily played the alto saxophone in jazz band. In addition to clarinet and saxophone, Jersey also played the bass clarinet for one concert while she was still in middle school. In 10th grade, Jersey made the decision to join the Midway choir. After joining, she quickly became an integral part of the alto section. In addition to band, jazz band, and choir, Jersey was also a member of Midway's first ever community band last summer.
Jersey has competed at the regional music competition all four years of high school. In that time, she qualified for state fives times, once as a soloist and four times as an ensemble member. At state music, Jersey has received three state stars. In 2025, Jersey was recognized for her efforts and achievements in band when she received Midway's Outstanding Instrumentalist Award. This year, Jersey was recognized again for her contributions to the entire music program as she received Midway's 2026 Outstanding Musician award.
In addition to performing in the choir and bands, Jersey has contributed to the music program in a variety of ways. She has taught clarinet lessons, taught recorder lessons, assisted with instrument demos, managed Midway Music social media, served as a music aid, organized the music library, and has helped with other tasks as well. Jersey has also served as the captain of the band for the past two years. Outside of music, Jersey has been involved in volleyball, softball, NHS, and several other activities and organizations. Jersey also helped start a weekly Bible study that meets before school.
Jersey loves many of the songs that she has performed. Some of her favorite choir songs are Irish Ballad by Joyce Eilers, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy by Frank Mets. A few of her favorite band pieces are Send in the Clowns by Stephen Sondheim, The Planets by Gustav Holst, and Of Courage and Valor by Ed Huckeby. Her favorite jazz band piece is Georgia on My Mind by Gorrell/Carmichael. Jersey's favorite music memory is going to state music.
About her time in the music program, Jersey said, "The music program allowed me to meet new people, find my closest friends, and interact with others that I normally wouldn't. I just love everything about playing music at Midway."
Jersey plans to attend NDSCS for dental hygiene next semester. She also plans to continue her passion for music with the NDSCS music program. We're proud of you and thanks for all you've done for Midway!

MIDWAY MUSIC SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Following in the footsteps of her dad and sister, Miley started playing the trumpet in 5th grade. Miley made her first appearance with the high school band in 8th grade, playing for graduation and Memorial Day that year. She played in the band for all four years of high school. Miley was also a founding member of the Midway jazz band as she played in that ensemble for all four years of high school as well. In both groups, Miley has been the first chair trumpet since she was a freshman. Miley competed at the regional music competition for four years and qualified for state for four times. Miley has earned three state stars, two as an ensemble member and one as a soloist. This year, Miley was recognized for her talent and hard work as she received Midway's 2026 Outstanding Instrumentalist award.
Miley has volunteered countless hours as a member of the music program. She has taught lessons, assisted with instrument demos, and played for church services. Miley has also volunteered her time to play taps for local Veterans Day and Memorial Day services for the past four years. Outside of the music program, Miley has also participated in basketball, softball, FCCLA, and many other activities.
Miley's favorite band piece that she performed was The Planets by Gustav Holst. Her favorite jazz band piece was Georgia on My Mind by Gorrell/Carmichael. The latter featured her as a soloist.

Next year, Miley plans to attend UND to study forensic science. She also plans to continue her musical journey as a member of UND's University Band. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication!
