USD 448 Bond 2022

USD 448 Bond 2022 We can do better. The current bond proposal deprives our students and our community of the best we can offer.

05/03/2022

Today is the day, Get out and vote! At the end of the day a decision will have been made about the bond and we will have another choice to make. Will we choose to be graceful in victory, or boastful. Will we choose to be amiable in defeat, or bitter. Clearly, this bond vote has caused division in our community and some have chosen to take the childish route of attacking people rather than debating ideas. As we move forward, we want to encourage everyone, ourselves included, to be respectful of everyone. We can do this by listening to understand, instead of listening to respond. We can do this by accepting what has happened and choosing to make the best next decision. Please be kind to your neighbors.

The school district put a cost calculator on their website to give you an idea of what your tax increase will be if this bond passes on May 3. What isn't shown is that this is only the increase in taxes for the first three years. For the first three years of this bond our taxes will go up 3.309 mils. The following 12 years our taxes will be up 9.75 mils. Use the tax calculator for the first three years then approximately TRIPLE that number to determine your increase for each of the next twelve years. Another way to look at it is this. Use the tax calculator, triple the number you get and that is how much your taxes go down in three years we turn down this bond!

During the past few summers, the city of Inman has been put in the unenviable situation of limiting residential water usage. How will an increase in irrigated acres of grass athletic fields affect that situation. Will the residents of Inman be forced to further limit their water usage so that we don't kill our brand new $5 million ($7 million with interest) athletic fields? Can the city's water system even support this increase? Has the facilities committee talked to city officials about this?

We're glad to see that the official page for this bond was finally able to correct their false numbers regarding the amounts that different groups of taxpayers would be paying for this bond. It was discouraging that this information was just released as an announcement and not a correction of the wrong information that was previously released. Releasing the information in this manner does nothing to rebuild the relationship between the school board and the community that has been strained over the past few years. Issuing this as a correction with an apology would have helped build back some of the lost trust. What might be even more concerning is that the information was wrong in the first place. The incorrect information was released as coming from the Mcpherson county clerk when, in fact, it came from "bond experts" Piper Sandler. The representative from Piper Sandler that was at the last community meeting was called by a patron to ask about this information and that call was never returned. Was it incompetence on the part of Piper Sandler to produce the wrong information, or something worse. Are there any more errors coming from Piper Sandler that haven't been caught yet? If so, will the bond committee catch it this time. How will the bond committee hold Piper Sandler accountable for this? What other information should patrons be digging into further before blindly trusting those behind this project with five million of our hard earned dollars?

This page exists to promote what we believe is best for the students of Inman Schools and the community of Inman. We all believe that Inman is in need of improvement regarding the outdoor athletic facilities. We do not all believe that the current bond project will help either of these groups in the long run.
WE CAN DO BETTER!

There have been many guesses and incorrect information being put out about who will be paying for this bond. After much research we can announce how the property tax to pay for this bond will be divided out per classification of land within the district.

Agriculture - 16%
Commercial - 5%
