As we remember Dolly Parton, I hope we remember that one of the things she cared deeply about was helping children learn to read.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has spent more than 30 years putting books directly into the hands of young children, mailing a free, age-appropriate book every month from birth to age five.

Dolly Parton gave us an incredible musical legacy. But she also gave millions of children something that can change the course of a life: a love of reading. That’s a legacy worth protecting. ❤️📚

Is our library here for books and computer use? Of course! 📚💻 And we are so thankful to provide those resources to our community!

But we are also here for something just as important: COMMUNITY. ❤️

We are here for the stay-at-home mom who hasn’t talked to another adult all week and gets to connect with other moms at Story Time.

We are here for the woman who comes to our free senior workout classes, stays active, and enjoys spending time with others.

We are here for the shy middle schooler who finds the courage to open up and make new friends during Pokémon Club.

We are here for the person who walks through our doors simply because they needed somewhere to go, someone to talk to, or a place where they feel welcome.

These things matter, too.

Community matters. Connection matters. Having a place where you belong matters.

We were never designed to do life completely alone.

So if you’re feeling lonely, disconnected, or like you just need a place to belong, come see us at the library. ❤️

You might come for a book or a computer… but you just might find your community. 📚🏡

🌱What’s Growing Wednesday?🌱

Looking for a more natural way to help manage garden pests?

Pictured here is the watermelon 🍉 growing at the community garden located at Ingersoll Public Library - Inola. It’s currently being guarded by these two gorgeous African Marigold plants (natural pest repellent) but that didn’t stop a swarm of ants from moving in.

Food-grade diatomaceous earth (DE) is made from fossilized microscopic organisms called diatoms. When insects crawl through it, the tiny particles damage their protective outer coating, causing them to lose moisture and die.

Benefits:
🐜 Helps control infestations from crawling pests like ants, aphids, beetles & earwigs
🪨 Mineral-based and naturally occurring
🧪 Doesn’t rely on traditional chemical insecticides
🪏Easy to apply around the garden

Remember: Always use FOOD-GRADE DE, not pool-grade. Avoid breathing the dust, apply lightly to dry areas, and use it carefully since it can also harm beneficial insects like bees and other pollinators! 🐝

Has our Story Time always been awesome? YES!
Will it be EVEN BETTER? YES!!!
While we are taking a break from having Story Time classes in August, we have been working hard on some AMAZING plans for our future Story Times. We can't wait!

When: Wednesday's at 10:30 (None on the 1st Wednesday of the month)
Where: Ingersoll Public Library
Who: It is geared toward preschool children, however older children are always welcome.

EXCITING NEWS! Our SAIL class will be returning September 1st!

Staying Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is a FREE fitness program for older adults, which can be done sitting or standing. Performing exercise that improves strength, balance and fitness is critical for staying active and reducing the risk of falls. The SAIL program was designed with these principles in mind. Each class includes warm-up, stretching, cardio, balance, and strengthening exercise, as well as a cool down.
